Childcare Center Director Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a childcare center director in Texas?
You qualify by meeting the Texas Director credential requirements set by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, which oversees childcare licensing. Candidates must hold at least a high school diploma and complete required clock hours in child development or a related field, though most Texas employers prefer a bachelor's degree. You will also need documented supervisory experience in a licensed setting and must pass a background check before the state issues a director designation.
Which companies hire childcare center directors in Texas?
Texas childcare center director roles are posted by The Learning Experience UK, Crescent City Academy, and Lil' Learners Academy and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Texas's size and its concentration of corporate headquarters in Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston means both national childcare chains and locally rooted nonprofits maintain steady director openings across the state.
Which Texas cities have the most childcare center director jobs?
Humble, Garland, and Houston have the most childcare center director openings in Texas. Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth lead because of their sheer population size and the density of corporate campuses, hospital systems, and nonprofit networks that operate licensed centers, while San Antonio's large military family population and active Head Start infrastructure keeps director demand consistently strong there as well.
Are there remote childcare center director jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of childcare center director openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, which reflects the fundamentally on-site nature of running a licensed center. The portions of the role most likely to appear in a hybrid arrangement are administrative and compliance functions, such as policy development, staff training coordination, or regional oversight roles at multi-site operators.
How can I get hired as a childcare center director in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a lead teacher or assistant director role first, building the supervisory hours Texas licensing requires before stepping into full director responsibility. Large Texas Head Start grantees, the YMCA network, and faith-based childcare operators run ongoing associate director and site coordinator programs that are designed for candidates who have early childhood credentials but limited management experience. Completing the Texas School Ready credential or earning a Child Development Associate credential gives applicants a concrete edge when applying for those bridge roles.
Where can I find and apply to childcare center director jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to childcare center director jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings from employers hiring right now. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly to the ones that interest you.
