Civil Project Manager Jobs in Nebraska: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a civil project manager in Nebraska?
The standard path starts with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, followed by passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam and accumulating the required years of supervised experience before sitting for the Principles and Practice of Engineering exam administered through the Nebraska State Board of Engineers and Architects. Licensure as a Professional Engineer in Nebraska is the credential most employers require before promoting someone into a project manager role on public infrastructure work.
How much do civil project managers make in Nebraska?
Civil project managers in Nebraska earn a median of about $80,150 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $51,630 for the lowest 10% to over $129,560 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire civil project managers in Nebraska?
Employers hiring civil project managers in Nebraska right now include Olsson, HDR, and Burns & McDonnell, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Nebraska's concentration of public-sector infrastructure programs and regional engineering firms means demand is consistent across both government agencies and private consulting practices throughout the state.
Which Nebraska cities have the most civil project manager jobs?
The cities with the most civil project manager openings in Nebraska are Omaha, Lincoln, and Kearney. Omaha drives the largest share of demand as the state's primary commercial and infrastructure hub, while Lincoln's role as the state capital concentrates public-agency hiring, and smaller markets like Grand Island reflect active transportation and water-system investment in central Nebraska.
Are there remote civil project manager jobs in Nebraska?
Yes, but they're rare. Civil project management is fundamentally a field-oriented role requiring site visits, contractor coordination, and direct inspection, so most positions in Nebraska require regular on-site presence. About 10% of civil project manager openings tied to Nebraska are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those tend to cover planning, scheduling, or contract-administration functions rather than active construction oversight.
How can I get hired as a civil project manager in Nebraska with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a project engineer or assistant project manager role at a Nebraska-based firm or public agency, where you support licensed PEs on active projects while accumulating the documented experience hours required for your own PE licensure. HDR Engineering and the Nebraska Department of Transportation both run new-graduate and entry-level programs that place candidates directly on infrastructure projects. Earning your EIT certification early and building experience on roadway or drainage projects gives you a clear edge when applying for your first project management assignment.
Where can I find and apply to civil project manager jobs in Nebraska?
You can find and apply to civil project manager jobs in Nebraska on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings, find the roles that match your experience and location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
