Entry Level Communications Director Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level communications director job?
Focus on building a portfolio that shows real communications work: press releases, social media campaigns, internal newsletters, or event coverage from internships, volunteer roles, or class projects. Employers hiring at this level look for clear writing, attention to messaging consistency, and familiarity with digital channels. A demonstrated ability to manage a story from draft to publish gives you a concrete edge over candidates with no samples.
Which companies hire entry level communications directors?
Companies hiring entry level communications directors right now include Northrop Grumman, Collabera, and Virginia Tech, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Nonprofits, government agencies, healthcare organizations, and mid-size corporations are especially active at this level, often bringing on junior communications staff to support growing content and public relations needs.
Are there remote entry level communications director jobs?
Yes, though on-site and hybrid postings still make up a meaningful share of listings at this level. About 23% of entry level communications director openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, giving new candidates flexibility when searching. Filtering by work setting on Migrate Mate helps you focus on the format that fits your situation.
Are these new grad communications director jobs?
Yes, many of these listings are new grad friendly, welcoming recent graduates and junior candidates with limited professional experience. A new grad posting typically signals that the employer accepts zero to two years of experience and will consider internships, campus media roles, or a strong portfolio in place of a full-time work history. Look for language like 'entry level,' 'junior,' or 'new graduate welcome' in the job description.
Which industries hire the most entry level communications directors?
Entry Level communications director roles concentrate in Education, Technology & Software, and Healthcare & Medical Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors tend to drive consistent hiring at the junior level because they maintain active public-facing messaging programs, community relations functions, or content operations that benefit from dedicated early-career communications staff.
