Entry Level Power Systems Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level power systems engineer job?
Employers hiring at this level look for coursework in power systems analysis, protection, or energy conversion, along with hands-on experience from internships, senior capstone projects, or simulation work in tools like ETAP, PSS/E, or MATLAB. Candidates who can demonstrate load flow studies, fault analysis, or relay coordination in a portfolio stand out. A relevant internship or co-op at a utility or engineering firm gives a strong edge over a resume alone.
Which companies hire entry level power systems engineers?
Companies hiring entry level power systems engineers right now include Caterpillar, Electric Power Engineers, and Redwood Materials, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. At this level, utilities, power engineering consultancies, renewable energy developers, and defense contractors are the most active employers, often recruiting new graduates directly from engineering programs.
Are there remote entry level power systems engineer jobs?
Yes, though most entry level power systems engineer roles are on-site given the hands-on nature of grid, substation, and protection work. About 18% of entry level power systems engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions tend to focus on modeling, simulation, or documentation-heavy tasks that do not require field presence.
Are these new grad power systems engineer jobs?
Yes, these listings include new grad, recent graduate, and junior power systems engineer roles. A posting is typically new-grad friendly when it welcomes zero to two years of experience, counts internships or co-ops toward that threshold, or explicitly accepts a strong academic portfolio in place of full-time work history. Look for language like 'entry level,' 'new graduate,' or '0 to 2 years' in the requirements.
Which industries hire the most entry level power systems engineers?
Entry Level power systems engineer roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Manufacturing, and Energy, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive hiring at this level because they are actively expanding grid infrastructure, integrating renewable generation, and need junior engineers who can support protection studies, design reviews, and system modeling under senior supervision.
