Position Overview
The client is seeking experienced and motivated Senior Incident Response Analysts (DFIR Consultants) to support Managed Detection and Response (MDR) customers and managed service providers (MSPs) within the Critical Incident Response Unit (CIRU). In this fast-paced, high-impact role, you will lead the investigative execution of active cyber incidents—predominantly dealing with ransomware and complex cyber attacks. Working directly with organizations of varying sizes and technical maturity across the US, you will make rapid, context-based decisions to disrupt adversary activity, contain threats, and guide remediation efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Incident Investigation & Response: Utilize client technologies to actively investigate, contain, and neutralize sophisticated cyber incidents, including malware outbreaks and ransomware attacks.
- Advanced Threat Analysis: Perform deep-dive network and endpoint forensics to trace initial access vectors, persistence mechanisms, and lateral movement.
- Client & MSP Collaboration: Act as a trusted technical advisor, leading phone calls and meetings with customers and MSPs to deliver high-priority containment, neutralization, and remediation recommendations.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain meticulous documentation during active engagements and author comprehensive, high-quality technical post-incident reports.
- Mentorship & Team Support: Provide technical guidance, peer reviews, and escalation support to incident response analysts and MDR operations teams.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Detection Engineering, Threat Hunting, and internal labs to continuously refine detection logic and share threat intelligence (TTPs, IOCs).
- Thought Leadership & Process Improvement: Contribute insights to security blogs, evaluate emerging technologies, and help optimize overall incident response capabilities.
Qualifications & Requirements
Essential Criteria:
- Experience: 4+ years of experience conducting methodical cybersecurity investigations/threat hunting, OR 2+ years of dedicated, hands-on incident response engagement experience.
- Technical Foundation: Strong grasp of network architecture, IT infrastructure, and Windows/Linux command-line and script interpreters.
- Forensic Expertise: Practical network and endpoint (macOS, Linux, Windows) investigation experience utilizing IDS, IPS, EDR, and basic malware analysis tools.
- Data Querying: Working proficiency in at least one of the following: OSQuery, SQL, or KQL.
- Frameworks: Familiarity with standard security frameworks, including MITRE ATT&CK and the Cyber Kill Chain.
- Communication: Exceptional technical writing and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to produce clear customer-facing documentation.
- Operational Resilience: Ability to thrive under high-pressure, time-sensitive conditions and flexibility to cover occasional weekends and holidays based on active incident lifecycles.
Desired Criteria:
- Certifications: Advanced industry certifications such as GCFE, GCFA, CompTIA CySA+, or OSCP.
