INTRODUCTION
The Marketing & Communications Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing strategic communications and marketing for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) and the Women’s and Children’s Service Line. As an integrated member of the central Marketing & Communications office, this position requires a large amount of cross-functional collaboration. Ideal candidates are strong writers, organized planners, and creative communicators who thrive in collaborative environments.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Develop and implement communication and marketing strategies to assist OB/GYN in accomplishing strategic priorities.
- Write, develop, and distribute internal and external communications, including newsletters, web stories, department announcements, email campaigns, etc.
- Collaborate closely with University of Utah Health Marketing and Communications teams, including clinical marketing, public affairs, internal communications, and research communications.
- Manage and create content for OB/GYN website and internal communications SharePoint site.
- Write, edit, and optimize physician bios; ensure accurate provider listings across the website and third-party platforms.
- Lead marketing onboarding for new physicians.
- Oversee the department’s social media strategy to ensure consistent voice and branding across all platforms.
- Create compelling content including blog posts, landing pages, email campaigns, and video scripts.
- Manage and track projects and tasks using project management software to ensure timely execution and cross-functional alignment.
- Assist in planning and executing department-wide events such as awards ceremonies, staff appreciation events, grand rounds, online seminars, and leadership town halls.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:
Marketing Communication Specialist, II: Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience.
Marketing Communication Specialist, III: Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 6 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 4 years of directly related work experience.
PREFERENCES
- Strong writing, editing, and content development skills.
- Proficiency with email marketing tools, web content management platforms (Drupal, SharePoint), and social media marketing.
- Working knowledge of basic design.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
