Tailor your credentials to healthcare physics
AltaMed operates clinical environments, so AAPM membership, medical physics board certification, or documented clinical residency hours carry more weight than research-only backgrounds. Align your CV to diagnostic imaging or radiation oncology workflows before applying.
Research AltaMed's federally qualified health center status
As an FQHC, AltaMed receives federal funding that shapes how they approach compliance-heavy processes like PERM-based Green Card sponsorship. Understanding this structure helps you frame your value as a long-term institutional asset, not just a visa hire.
Verify your OPT STEM extension eligibility early
Physics typically qualifies for the 24-month STEM OPT extension under CIP codes in the physical sciences. Confirm your degree program's classification with your DSO before accepting an offer, since AltaMed will need to be E-Verify enrolled to support the extension.
Ask specifically about H-1B cap-exempt filing pathways
If AltaMed affiliates with a qualifying nonprofit research institution or teaching hospital, your H-1B petition may be cap-exempt, bypassing the annual lottery entirely. Raise this in your offer negotiation rather than assuming standard cap-subject timing applies.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Physics roles at AltaMed
Physics positions in healthcare fill through specific hiring cycles tied to equipment procurement and clinical expansion. Migrate Mate lets you filter AltaMed's current openings by visa sponsorship type so you can apply during active hiring windows rather than after positions close.
Align your offer timeline with USCIS premium processing
H-1B standard processing can run several months, which creates a gap if your OPT is expiring. Negotiate with AltaMed's HR team about premium processing during the offer stage, since USCIS currently adjudicates premium petitions within 15 business days.

Find Physics at AltaMed Health Services JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does AltaMed Health Services sponsor H-1B visas for Physicists?
Yes, AltaMed Health Services sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying Physics roles. Physics positions in clinical and diagnostic settings generally meet the specialty occupation standard required by USCIS, given the degree requirements tied to medical physics practice. If AltaMed qualifies for cap-exempt status through a nonprofit or research affiliation, your petition may bypass the annual lottery, which is worth clarifying during the offer stage.
Which visa types are commonly used for Physics roles at AltaMed Health Services?
H-1B is the most common nonimmigrant visa for Physics professionals at AltaMed. F-1 OPT and CPT are options for recent graduates, with STEM OPT extension available for eligible Physics degree holders. TN visas are available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying Physics classifications. For longer-term pathways, EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through PERM labor certification is possible for established roles.
How do I apply for Physics jobs at AltaMed Health Services?
Search for open Physics roles on AltaMed's careers portal or use Migrate Mate to browse current openings filtered by visa sponsorship type. Prepare a CV that highlights clinical physics experience, relevant certifications such as ABR board eligibility, and any AAPM involvement. Apply directly through the job listing, and once you reach the offer stage, confirm sponsorship eligibility and timeline with AltaMed's HR or in-house immigration contact before accepting.
What qualifications does AltaMed Health Services expect for Physics roles?
AltaMed's Physics openings typically require at minimum a master's degree in medical physics, health physics, or a closely related physical sciences field, with doctoral credentials preferred for senior clinical or research-adjacent positions. AAPM membership and progress toward ABR board certification strengthen your application significantly. Hands-on experience with diagnostic imaging equipment, radiation therapy systems, or clinical quality assurance protocols is frequently listed as a requirement, not a preference.
How do I navigate the timeline from offer to visa approval for a Physics role at AltaMed?
The timeline depends on your current status. F-1 OPT holders can begin work immediately on authorization, with the H-1B petition filed before OPT expires. USCIS premium processing reduces H-1B adjudication to roughly 15 business days, which is advisable if your OPT end date is approaching. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship runs on a longer track, often 18 to 36 months from initiation to approval, so raise that conversation with AltaMed early if permanent residency is your goal.
