Tailor your portfolio to Apple's product data
Apple hires Data Scientists who work on privacy-first ML pipelines and on-device intelligence. Build portfolio projects that reflect experience with federated learning, differential privacy, or large-scale behavioral data, since generic Kaggle work rarely stands out in their screening process.
Identify which Apple teams actively hire
Apple's Data Scientist openings span hardware analytics, Siri, App Store, and health research. Review active job postings by business unit before applying so your cover letter and resume map directly to the team's stated data stack and research priorities.
Clarify your visa category before interviewing
Apple sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT for Data Scientists. Know which category applies to your nationality before your first recruiter call so you can confirm fit early and avoid late-stage surprises when the offer and filing paperwork begin.
Time your application around OPT cap-gap risk
If you're on F-1 OPT, the H-1B lottery runs once a year with a registration window in March. Missing that window means a gap in work authorization. Confirm with Apple's HR team whether they will file your H-1B petition in your final OPT year.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Apple Data Scientist openings by visa type
Apple posts Data Scientist roles across multiple teams with different sponsorship willingness. Use Migrate Mate to filter live openings by the visa category you need, so you're only applying to roles where your work authorization situation is already a known fit.
Prepare for PERM if you plan to pursue a Green Card
Apple sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for Data Scientists through DOL's PERM labor certification process. Discuss Green Card timelines with your recruiter before signing an offer so you understand whether Apple initiates PERM filings for your role level.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Apple sponsor H-1B visas for Data Scientists?
Yes, Apple sponsors H-1B visas for Data Scientists. Because H-1B is a cap-subject visa, your petition must be selected in the annual USCIS lottery before Apple can file. Apple's legal team manages the filing process, but the lottery selection is outside the company's control, so early coordination with HR on your timeline is important.
How do I apply for Data Scientist jobs at Apple?
Applications go through Apple's careers site at jobs.apple.com. Search by job family or team to find Data Scientist openings. Tailor your resume to the specific team's data domain, whether that's health, hardware, or consumer products. You can also browse Apple's current Data Scientist openings filtered by visa type on Migrate Mate before applying directly through Apple.
Which visa types does Apple commonly sponsor for Data Scientists?
Apple sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 visa (for Chilean and Singaporean nationals), E-3 visa (for Australian nationals), TN visa (for Canadian and Mexican nationals), and F-1 OPT and CPT for students. For permanent residence, Apple files EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card petitions through the DOL PERM labor certification process for qualifying Data Scientist roles.
What qualifications does Apple expect for Data Scientist roles?
Most Apple Data Scientist roles require a graduate degree in statistics, computer science, or a related quantitative field, along with hands-on experience in Python, SQL, and machine learning frameworks. Roles on hardware or Siri teams often require familiarity with on-device ML constraints. Research-oriented roles may expect a PhD and a publication record in machine learning or applied statistics.
How do I estimate the timeline from offer to starting work on a visa at Apple?
Timeline depends on your visa category. E-3 and TN petitions can be completed in weeks through consular processing. H-1B has an annual lottery in March, with an October 1 start date if selected. F-1 OPT allows you to start working before H-1B status begins. USCIS premium processing, available for H-1B, reduces adjudication to 15 business days once filed.
