Align your credentials to Apple's security domains
Apple's Security Engineering teams segment around platform security, privacy infrastructure, and hardware-level cryptography. Tailor your resume to reflect depth in one of these areas rather than presenting a generalist profile, which is less competitive for these specialized openings.
Target roles that match your current visa category
Apple sponsors E-3, H-1B1, and TN in addition to the standard H-1B, so filtering by your nationality first narrows the process significantly. Roles with open headcount in hardware security often move faster through internal approval than broader infrastructure positions.
Prepare a strong specialty occupation case early
USCIS scrutinizes Security Engineer H-1B petitions because the title covers a wide range of duties. Document that your specific role requires a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, cybersecurity, or a closely related field, not just general IT experience.
Use Migrate Mate to surface Apple's open Security Engineer roles
Apple posts Security Engineer positions across multiple teams simultaneously, making it easy to miss relevant openings. Search Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Apple roles that are open to visa sponsorship and match your authorization type before applying.
Start your OPT or STEM OPT timeline before your first interview
Apple's hiring process for Security Engineers typically spans several rounds over six to ten weeks. If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your STEM OPT extension eligibility and employer E-Verify status before the process begins to avoid authorization gaps at the offer stage.
Clarify PERM sponsorship timing during the offer negotiation
Apple initiates PERM-based Green Card sponsorship for many Security Engineers, but the timeline depends on your priority date and country of chargeability. Ask your recruiter directly which green card categories Apple supports and at what point in employment the process typically begins.

Find Security Engineer at Apple JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Apple sponsor H-1B visas for Security Engineers?
Yes, Apple sponsors H-1B visas for Security Engineer roles. The company also supports H-1B1 visas for Chilean and Singaporean nationals and E-3 visas for Australian citizens, giving qualified candidates multiple pathways depending on nationality. Apple's legal and HR teams manage the filing process, including Labor Condition Application submission to the DOL and the USCIS petition.
How do I apply for Security Engineer jobs at Apple?
Apply directly through Apple's careers site or find open roles on Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for positions open to visa sponsorship. Security Engineer applications at Apple typically require a tailored resume that maps your experience to their specific security domains, such as platform security, cryptography, or secure hardware. Referrals from current Apple engineers significantly improve your chances of clearing the initial screening.
Which visa types does Apple commonly use for Security Engineer roles?
Apple sponsors H-1B, H-1B1, E-3, and TN visas for Security Engineer positions depending on your nationality, as well as F-1 OPT and CPT for students actively completing qualifying programs. For longer-term employment, Apple also pursues EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process filed with the DOL.
What qualifications does Apple expect for sponsored Security Engineer roles?
Apple's Security Engineer roles typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, electrical engineering, cybersecurity, or a related technical field, which also satisfies USCIS specialty occupation requirements. Beyond the degree, Apple looks for hands-on experience in areas like reverse engineering, cryptographic protocol implementation, vulnerability research, or secure hardware design, depending on the specific team.
How do I navigate the visa filing timeline after receiving an Apple offer?
Once you have an offer, Apple's immigration team coordinates with outside counsel to file your visa petition. For H-1B cap-subject candidates, the filing window opens in March for an October 1 start date, so offers extended in spring align with that cycle. E-3 and TN cases process faster, often within a few weeks through consular processing or a port of entry. Confirm your start date accounts for USCIS processing or premium processing timelines upfront.
