Align your portfolio to EDA workflows
Cadence prioritizes candidates with hands-on experience in electronic design automation tools like Virtuoso, Spectre, or Xcelium. Tailor your resume and portfolio to reflect specific EDA or verification flows, not just general software engineering skills.
Target roles matching your visa category
H-1B specialty occupation petitions require a direct nexus between your degree field and the role. For Software Design Engineer positions, a degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science gives you the strongest footing when USCIS evaluates your petition.
Confirm sponsorship intent before final rounds
Cadence's recruiting process for engineering roles can move quickly. Ask the recruiter directly whether the specific team and headcount are set up for H-1B filing, not just whether the company sponsors in general, before you reach offer stage.
Understand the LCA wage obligation upfront
Before signing an offer, review the Labor Condition Application wage level. DOL requires your offered salary to meet the prevailing wage for your role and location. Software Design Engineers at large EDA firms are typically benchmarked at wage level III or IV.
Use Migrate Mate to identify open roles efficiently
Filter for Software Design Engineer openings at Cadence that are flagged for visa sponsorship. Migrate Mate surfaces these listings so you spend time applying to roles where sponsorship is confirmed rather than guessing from generic job boards.
Prepare for the H-1B cap lottery timing
If you need a new H-1B, USCIS accepts registrations in March for an October 1 start date. Plan your Cadence job search to have an offer in hand before the registration window, since missing it means waiting a full year for the next cycle.

Does Cadence Design Systems sponsor H-1B visas for Software Design Engineers?
Yes, Cadence Design Systems sponsors H-1B visas for Software Design Engineers. The company has a consistent sponsorship track record in this function, which aligns with its need to recruit specialized talent in EDA, verification, and silicon design. Sponsorship is typically handled through Cadence's internal immigration team or an outside counsel, and the process follows standard USCIS petition timelines.
How do I apply for Software Design Engineer jobs at Cadence Design Systems?
You can apply directly through Cadence's careers site or browse open roles on Migrate Mate, which filters for Software Design Engineer positions at Cadence that include visa sponsorship. When applying, tailor your resume to reflect relevant EDA tools and verification experience. Cadence's hiring process typically includes technical screening, coding or design assessments, and multiple engineering interviews.
Which visa types does Cadence Design Systems use for Software Design Engineer roles?
Cadence sponsors both H-1B nonimmigrant visas and employment-based Green Cards, including EB-2 and EB-3 categories, for Software Design Engineers. H-1B is the most common path for initial work authorization. For candidates on F-1 OPT or STEM OPT, Cadence is enrolled in E-Verify, which is required to support STEM OPT extension requests with a qualifying employer.
What qualifications does Cadence look for in Software Design Engineer candidates?
Cadence typically looks for candidates with a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or electrical engineering. For Software Design Engineer roles, hands-on experience with EDA tools, RTL design, functional verification, or chip design flows carries significant weight. Many roles at Cadence also involve C++ or Python, and familiarity with industry-standard simulation or synthesis environments strengthens your candidacy considerably.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Software Design Engineer at Cadence?
Timeline depends on which visa pathway applies. For an H-1B cap filing, expect the process to span several months from offer to work authorization, given the April lottery registration and October 1 start date. USCIS standard processing runs three to six months. Premium processing reduces USCIS adjudication to 15 business days. For Green Card sponsorship through PERM labor certification, the full process from filing to approval typically takes two to four years.
