Align your CV to U.S. faculty standards
U.S. academic CVs differ from international formats. List publications in APA or discipline-specific citation style, separate peer-reviewed work from conference papers, and include a teaching philosophy section. CSU hiring committees expect this structure for Professor applicants.
Target departments with active research agendas
CSU's STEM, business, and health sciences departments post Professor openings more regularly than others. Departments with active grants are more likely to move quickly through sponsorship paperwork, since immigration costs are sometimes built into grant budgets.
Browse open Professor roles on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Professor openings at Cleveland State University by visa type. This saves time by surfacing only roles where sponsorship has been offered, so you're not guessing which departments will support an international hire.
Understand how PERM shapes your Green Card timeline
For EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, CSU must complete a PERM labor certification with DOL before filing your immigrant petition. The PERM recruitment process typically takes six to twelve months and must be employer-initiated, so raise Green Card interest early in negotiations.
Request H-1B sponsorship before your OPT expires
If you're on F-1 OPT, H-1B cap-subject filings open in April for an October 1 start. CSU must submit your petition before that window closes. Confirm your department's timeline and budget approval process at least four months before the USCIS filing deadline.
Prepare evidence of scholarly impact for specialty occupation
USCIS scrutinizes whether a Professor role qualifies as a specialty occupation. Compile syllabi showing degree-specific course content, your publication record, and evidence that a doctorate or terminal degree is the standard in your discipline, not just preferred.

Find Professor at Cleveland State University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Cleveland State University sponsor H-1B visas for Professors?
Yes, Cleveland State University sponsors H-1B visas for Professor roles. As a university, CSU qualifies as a cap-exempt H-1B employer, which means petitions can be filed at any time of year rather than being subject to the April lottery window. This is a significant advantage for international faculty candidates who need to start outside the standard October 1 cycle.
How do I apply for Professor jobs at Cleveland State University?
Professor positions at Cleveland State University are posted on the CSU HR portal and academic job boards. Each posting requires a CV, cover letter, teaching statement, research statement, and reference contacts. Applications are reviewed by departmental search committees. You can also browse open Professor roles at CSU filtered by visa sponsorship availability on Migrate Mate before applying directly through CSU's official system.
Which visa types are commonly used for Professor roles at Cleveland State University?
CSU sponsors H-1B visas most frequently for full-time Professor positions. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican nationals whose discipline appears on the USMCA eligible occupations list. For long-term hires, CSU may support EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through PERM. F-1 CPT and OPT are relevant for postdoctoral or visiting roles but do not apply to permanent faculty lines.
What qualifications are expected for Professor roles at Cleveland State University?
Most tenure-track and full Professor positions at CSU require a terminal degree in the relevant field, which is a Ph.D. for most disciplines or an MFA or J.D. in specific fields. Research-active candidates with peer-reviewed publications are prioritized. For clinical or professional faculty lines, significant industry experience may substitute for a traditional research portfolio, depending on the college.
How long does H-1B sponsorship take for a Professor position at CSU?
Because CSU is a cap-exempt institution, USCIS standard processing for an H-1B petition typically takes three to five months. Premium processing, which CSU may elect or a candidate can request, reduces that to 15 business days. Factor in time for your department to prepare the Labor Condition Application through DOL, which is filed before the USCIS petition and usually takes one to two weeks.
