About the Role
CodeMax Medical Billing is seeking an experienced Substance Abuse Medical Billing Supervisor to lead and support our high-performing RCM team. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with strong leadership capabilities and deep knowledge of medical billing, coding, and reimbursement processes.
The Billing Supervisor ensures accurate claim submission, timely reimbursement, and compliance with industry and regulatory standards. This position plays a key role in maintaining operational excellence and driving continuous improvement within our billing department.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise the team responsible for reviewing patient records and translating services, diagnoses, and equipment into ICD, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
- Oversee preparation and submission of insurance claims, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance.
- Manage follow-ups on unpaid or denied claims and resolve discrepancies to optimize reimbursement.
- Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and company policies.
- Foster communication among healthcare providers, patients, and insurance companies to resolve billing and coding issues.
- Ensure the team remains up-to-date on changes in medical billing and coding regulations.
- Implement and monitor KPIs and quality assurance processes to ensure coding accuracy and consistency.
- Provide leadership, training, mentorship, and continuous support to billing and coding team members.
- Develop and execute strategies to improve efficiency and effectiveness across billing operations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Proficiency with healthcare billing software and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
- Strong knowledge of insurance plans, commercial, In Network, Out of Network, Government and the full claims lifecycle.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and multitasking skills.
- Strong communication and analytical problem-solving abilities.
- Prior leadership or team-management experience in a substance abuse RCM billing or coding environment.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
- AAPC certification preferred.
- Previous experience in medical billing and coding, ideally within a healthcare or hospital environment.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, HIPAA rules, and compliance standards.
- Proven supervisory or managerial experience.
