Align your degree to Cummins plant functions
Cummins Manufacturing Engineer roles typically require a degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering. Confirm your transcript reflects one of these fields before applying, since specialty occupation determinations hinge on degree-to-role alignment, not just job experience.
Target plant-specific openings over corporate roles
Cummins posts Manufacturing Engineer roles tied to specific facilities, not just headquarters. Plant-based positions, especially in engine and filtration manufacturing, have historically driven the most sponsorship activity, so filtering by facility type sharpens your targeting.
Clarify LCA timing before accepting an offer
Your employer must file a certified Labor Condition Application with the DOL before USCIS can process your H-1B petition. Ask your Cummins recruiter where they are in the LCA process so you can accurately plan your start date.
Use Migrate Mate to surface current openings
Cummins lists Manufacturing Engineer roles across multiple facilities and business units, making it easy to miss relevant postings. Search Migrate Mate to filter open positions by visa sponsorship eligibility and location in one place.
Prepare PERM documentation early for green card timelines
Cummins supports EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship for Manufacturing Engineers, which requires a PERM labor certification from the DOL. Gathering performance records, transcripts, and employment verification early prevents delays when your employer initiates the process.
Confirm OPT STEM extension eligibility before your cap gap
If you are on F-1 OPT and your H-1B is selected in the lottery, your cap-gap period protects your status until October 1. Verify that Cummins is enrolled in E-Verify, which is required for STEM OPT extensions, before your standard OPT expiration.

Does Cummins sponsor H-1B visas for Manufacturing Engineers?
Yes, Cummins sponsors H-1B visas for Manufacturing Engineers. The company has a consistent track record of supporting this role through the H-1B process, including filing the required Labor Condition Application with the DOL and submitting the I-129 petition to USCIS. Sponsorship is typically tied to a specific facility and position, so confirming sponsorship intent early in the hiring process is recommended.
Which visa types does Cummins commonly use for Manufacturing Engineers?

The company also supports EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa pathways, including PERM labor certification, for engineers pursuing permanent residence.
What qualifications does Cummins expect for Manufacturing Engineer roles?
Most Manufacturing Engineer roles at Cummins require a bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering. Hands-on experience with process improvement methodologies such as Six Sigma or lean manufacturing is commonly expected. Roles at specific facilities may also require familiarity with engine assembly, filtration systems, or power generation processes depending on the plant's product line.
How do I apply for Manufacturing Engineer jobs at Cummins?
Applications go through Cummins' careers portal, where roles are listed by facility and business unit. Once you identify a target role, apply directly and confirm sponsorship intent with the recruiter before advancing through interviews.
How do I plan my timeline for H-1B sponsorship at Cummins?
H-1B registration opens in March each year, with employment starting no earlier than October 1 if selected. If you are on F-1 OPT, your cap-gap provision covers the period between OPT expiration and October 1.
