Understand the academic hiring calendar
Higher education hiring runs on a different cycle than corporate recruiting. Faculty searches often open in the fall for the following academic year. Applying early and tracking postings consistently gives you a meaningful advantage at a university like DePaul.
Leverage DePaul's Chicago location
DePaul's urban campus model means it hires across business, computing, law, and liberal arts, not just traditional STEM fields. International candidates with backgrounds in these disciplines should not assume sponsorship is limited to technical roles.
Search for verified sponsoring employers before applying
Not every university posting clearly signals visa sponsorship eligibility. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, saving time by focusing only on employers with a confirmed track record like DePaul.
Prepare for a multi-round, committee-driven process
University hiring at DePaul typically involves faculty or staff committees, multiple interview rounds, and longer decision timelines than private-sector employers. Budget extra time between application and offer, especially if your visa situation involves tight deadlines.
