Date posted May. 09, 2026
Location Austin, Texas
Category Software Engineering
Overview
Arm is extending its “Arm everywhere” vision into robotics and embodied AI—where intelligence must operate under real-world constraints of latency, power, and safety. We are building a new robotics research lab in Austin focused on the science of integration—understanding how different paradigms (learning, control, planning) work together in real robotic systems, and how they map onto heterogeneous compute.
This role focuses on how robot capabilities are realized through machine learning, and how those capabilities behave when deployed in full systems. You will develop and evaluate ML-based approaches—including VLA/VLM models, RL, and learning-based planning—and study their interaction with other components in hierarchical robotic systems. The goal is not just better models, but deployable intelligence under real-world constraints.
Responsibilities
- Develop ML methods for perception, planning, and control in robotics
- Work with VLM/VLA models and embodied AI systems
- Benchmark learning-based approaches against classical and hybrid methods
- Integrate ML components into hierarchical, multi-layer robotic systems
- Contribute to system-level prototypes and demonstrations
- Translate ML insights into system and compute requirements
Required Skills and Experience
- PhD or equivalent experience in ML, Robotics, or related field
- Strong experience in RL, imitation learning, or embodied AI
- Proficiency in Python and ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, JAX)
- Experience with robotic systems or simulation environments
- Publications in top-tier venues
“Nice To Have” Skills and Experience
- Experience with task/motion planning
- Familiarity with foundation models for robotics
- Experience with sim-to-real transfer
In Return
You will help define how learning-based intelligence is realized and deployed in real robotic systems—shaping both Arm’s research direction and the architectures that will power robots at global scale.
Salary Range:
$161,500-$218,500 per year
We value people as individuals and our dedication is to reward people competitively and equitably for the work they do and the skills and experience they bring to Arm. Salary is only one component of Arm's offering. The total reward package will be shared with candidates during the recruitment and selection process.
Accommodations at Arm

To note, by sending us the requested information, you consent to its use by Arm to arrange for appropriate accommodations. All accommodation or adjustment requests will be treated with confidentiality, and information concerning these requests will only be disclosed as necessary to provide the accommodation. Although this is not an exhaustive list, examples of support include breaks between interviews, having documents read aloud, or office accessibility. Please email us about anything we can do to accommodate you during the recruitment process.
Hybrid Working at Arm
Arm’s approach to hybrid working is designed to create a working environment that supports both high performance and personal wellbeing. We believe in bringing people together face to face to enable us to work at pace, whilst recognizing the value of flexibility. Within that framework, we empower groups/teams to determine their own hybrid working patterns, depending on the work and the team’s needs. Details of what this means for each role will be shared upon application. In some cases, the flexibility we can offer is limited by local legal, regulatory, tax, or other considerations, and where this is the case, we will collaborate with you to find the best solution. Please talk to us to find out more about what this could look like for you.

Align your degree to Arm's SOC codes
Arm files LCAs under electrical engineering and computer science occupation codes. Pull the relevant O*NET profiles before you apply to confirm your degree field maps directly to the role, not just the job title.
Target CPU and architecture team openings
Arm's E-3 sponsorship history runs deepest in CPU microarchitecture, physical IP, and compiler engineering teams. Applications to these groups are more likely to reach hiring managers who already understand the E-3 filing process.
Request LCA details before accepting an offer
Before signing, ask Arm's immigration team for the certified LCA job title and wage level. Your visa application depends on those details matching your actual role, so confirming them early prevents delays at the consulate.
Check prevailing wage before salary negotiations
Run the offered title and work location through the OFLC Wage Search to see the DOL wage levels for that role. Arm must certify a wage at or above the prevailing rate, so knowing the floor strengthens your negotiation.
File your DS-160 as soon as the LCA is certified
Once Arm's LCA clears DOL, you can book your consulate interview and complete the DS-160 immediately. Delays between certification and scheduling add weeks to your start date, which affects Arm's onboarding timeline.
Use Migrate Mate to handle your E-3 filing
After you have a signed offer and a certified LCA from Arm, Migrate Mate assigns a dedicated E-3 expert to prepare your consulate application package, usually filed within one business day of receiving your documents.
Arm E-3 Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Arm sponsor E-3 visas?
Yes, Arm sponsors E-3 visas for qualified Australian nationals. Sponsorship is most common for technical roles in semiconductor design, CPU architecture, and software engineering. Because the E-3 requires employer participation in the Labor Condition Application process, Arm's immigration team handles the DOL filing before you apply at the consulate.
Which roles at Arm are most likely to receive E-3 sponsorship?
E-3 sponsorship at Arm tends to concentrate in hardware engineering, microarchitecture, physical design, compiler development, and related software engineering functions. These roles align with USCIS specialty occupation requirements because they consistently require a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related engineering or computer science field.
How do I start the E-3 application process after receiving an offer from Arm?
Arm's immigration or HR team files the Labor Condition Application with DOL first. Once that's certified, you complete the DS-160, pay the MRV fee, and schedule a consulate interview in Australia. You don't need to file anything with USCIS for an E-3 obtained at a consulate abroad. Migrate Mate can prepare and review your full consulate package once the LCA is in hand.
How long does the E-3 process take at Arm?
LCA certification through DOL typically takes up to seven business days. Consulate interview wait times in Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth vary by season but often run two to six weeks. From offer acceptance to visa stamp, most candidates complete the process in four to eight weeks, assuming documents are submitted promptly after the LCA clears.
What should I bring to my E-3 consulate interview for an Arm role?
Bring your valid Australian passport, DS-160 confirmation page, MRV fee receipt, certified LCA, signed offer letter on Arm company letterhead, and evidence of your qualifying degree. If your degree is from an Australian university, no credential evaluation is typically required, but consular officers may ask clarifying questions about how your field maps to the role.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 sponsorship at Arm?
E-3 employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, determined when they file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, ensuring Australian hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
