Target associate roles in core practice groups
Clifford Chance's E-3 sponsorship concentrates in its transactional and capital markets practices. Focus your application on associate-level openings in corporate, finance, and restructuring teams, where Australian legal credentials align most directly with U.S. client work.
Verify your Australian degree meets specialty occupation
Your Australian law degree must satisfy USCIS's specialty occupation standard. A three-year LLB or combined JD-equivalent qualifies, but be prepared to provide academic transcripts and a credential evaluation if your degree structure differs from U.S. norms.
Confirm bar admission strategy before accepting an offer
Clifford Chance U.S. offices typically require associates to be admitted or on track for admission to the New York or another state bar. Clarify with the firm's recruiting team whether admission is required before your start date or within a defined period.
Use OFLC Wage Search to benchmark your offer
Before signing an offer, look up the prevailing wage for your specific legal role and city using OFLC Wage Search. Your salary must meet or exceed the DOL prevailing wage for the role, and knowing the threshold helps you evaluate whether the offer is compliant.
Find Clifford Chance E-3 roles through Migrate Mate
Search Migrate Mate to identify current Clifford Chance openings filtered for E-3 sponsorship eligibility. The platform pulls DOL Labor Condition Application data so you can see which roles the firm has actively sponsored, saving time on manual research.
Coordinate LCA filing timing with your start date
The E-3 process requires a certified LCA before your consular interview. Work with Clifford Chance's immigration counsel to align LCA submission with your intended start date, since DOL certification can take up to seven business days and delays your interview scheduling.
Clifford Chance E-3 Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Clifford Chance sponsor E-3 visas?
Yes, Clifford Chance sponsors E-3 visas for qualified Australian nationals in its U.S. offices. Sponsorship is tied to specific associate and counsel roles in practice groups where the firm actively recruits. The firm handles E-3 filings through its in-house immigration team, so the process is structured once you receive an offer.
Which roles and departments at Clifford Chance typically receive E-3 sponsorship?
E-3 sponsorship at Clifford Chance concentrates in transactional practice groups, including corporate, capital markets, finance, and restructuring. Associate and counsel positions in these teams are the most common entry points. Staff attorney and legal operations roles may qualify depending on the position's degree requirements and how USCIS classifies the specialty occupation.
How do I navigate the E-3 application process at Clifford Chance?
After receiving an offer, Clifford Chance's immigration counsel files the Labor Condition Application with DOL. Once certified, you schedule your consular interview at a U.S. embassy in Australia and bring the LCA, DS-160 confirmation, and supporting documents. You can use Migrate Mate to handle the filing process at a flat fee if you need independent support.
How long does the E-3 sponsorship process take at Clifford Chance?
The timeline from offer to visa stamp runs roughly four to six weeks for straightforward cases. DOL LCA certification typically takes up to seven business days, and consular appointment availability in Sydney or Melbourne drives most of the remaining wait. Start dates should be planned with this window in mind to avoid gaps between accepting an offer and beginning work.
What should I do to strengthen my E-3 application for Clifford Chance?
Secure a credential evaluation confirming your Australian law degree meets U.S. specialty occupation standards, and clarify your bar admission status with the firm's recruiting team before interviews. Review the prevailing wage for your role and city using OFLC Wage Search so you can verify your offer is compliant before signing. Having these documents ready accelerates the LCA filing once you receive an offer.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 sponsorship at Clifford Chance?
E-3 employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, determined when they file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, ensuring Australian hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
