Tailor your credentials to U.S. bar requirements
Davis Polk hires foreign-trained lawyers primarily into roles that complement U.S. bar-admitted attorneys. Confirm whether your Australian law degree and any LLM credentials position you for associate, staff attorney, or legal specialist roles before applying.
Identify which practice groups recruit internationally
Not every Davis Polk practice group sponsors E-3 visas at the same frequency. Capital markets, M&A, and finance practices have historically drawn international legal talent. Targeting your application to these groups improves your odds of reaching a hiring team familiar with E-3 sponsorship.
Search Davis Polk's verified E-3 filing history on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application data by employer and role, so you can see which job titles Davis Polk has filed E-3 LCAs for. Use that filing history to confirm the role you're targeting aligns with positions the firm has sponsored before.
Confirm your role meets specialty occupation requirements
E-3 eligibility requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards, meaning a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field is a requirement for the role. Review the O*NET occupation profile for your target job title before the firm files the Labor Condition Application.
Clarify sponsorship timing before accepting an offer
Davis Polk's HR and legal teams handle E-3 filings, but the LCA must be certified by DOL before your consular interview. Ask the recruiting team for the firm's standard timeline from offer acceptance to LCA certification so you can plan your Australian departure date accordingly.
Benchmark your offer against the prevailing wage
The E-3 requires the employer to certify your salary meets the DOL prevailing wage for your occupation and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the wage level for your role in the New York metro area before your offer negotiation so you can assess compliance independently.
Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP E-3 Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Davis Polk Wardwell sponsor E-3 visas?
Yes, Davis Polk Wardwell sponsors E-3 visas for qualified Australian professionals. The firm has a demonstrated record of filing Labor Condition Applications for E-3 candidates, particularly in legal and professional roles across its core practice groups. Sponsorship is typically initiated after a job offer is extended and the role meets USCIS specialty occupation requirements.
Which roles at Davis Polk Wardwell typically qualify for E-3 sponsorship?
E-3 sponsorship at Davis Polk Wardwell is most commonly associated with legal roles requiring a relevant law degree, including associate attorney, staff attorney, and specialist positions in transactional practice groups such as capital markets, M&A, and finance. Non-legal professional roles with a clear specialty occupation basis may also qualify, depending on the position's degree requirements.
How do I start the E-3 application process at Davis Polk Wardwell?
Once you receive a job offer, Davis Polk's HR team works with the firm's immigration counsel to file a Labor Condition Application with DOL. After LCA certification, you attend a consular interview in Australia with your offer letter, LCA, and supporting credentials. USCIS does not adjudicate the E-3 for consular applicants, so no petition is filed in the U.S. before your interview.
How long does the E-3 process take at Davis Polk Wardwell?
The LCA certification step typically takes seven business days once DOL receives the application, though timelines can vary. From offer acceptance to a scheduled consular interview, most candidates at major law firms allow four to eight weeks. Your actual interview wait time depends on appointment availability at your nearest U.S. consulate in Australia.
How do I find open E-3 roles at Davis Polk Wardwell?
Search Migrate Mate to find roles at Davis Polk Wardwell that align with positions the firm has historically filed E-3 LCAs for, based on DOL disclosure data. You can also monitor the firm's careers page directly and filter for roles in practice groups with established international hiring patterns. Applying through a targeted approach to relevant practice groups improves your chances of reaching a sponsorship-familiar team.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 sponsorship at Davis Polk Wardwell?
E-3 employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, determined when they file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, ensuring Australian hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
