Align your credentials to U.S. licensing standards
Construction roles at Johns Lyng USA often require credentials that map to U.S. licensing frameworks. Cross-reference your Australian qualifications against O*NET occupation profiles for your target role to identify any gaps before you apply, and document equivalency proactively in your application materials.
Target project-based roles with specialty occupation footing
E-3 eligibility hinges on specialty occupation status, which requires a direct link between your degree and the role. At Johns Lyng USA, project management and estimating positions carry the clearest specialty occupation argument because they require field-specific bachelor's degrees, not just generalist business or trade qualifications.
Verify prevailing wage before salary negotiations begin
Your employer must file a Labor Condition Application certifying your salary meets DOL prevailing wage for your role and location. Run your job title through the OFLC Wage Search before any offer conversation so you enter negotiations knowing the minimum wage floor Johns Lyng USA is legally required to meet.
Use Migrate Mate to confirm Johns Lyng USA's LCA filing history
Before investing time in an application, confirm that Johns Lyng USA has active Labor Condition Application filings for your occupation. Migrate Mate surfaces DOL LCA data by employer and role, so you can see which positions the company has sponsored and whether your target job title has a documented filing history.
Get the LCA certified before your consulate appointment
Unlike the H-1B, the E-3 is consular-processed, meaning you attend a visa interview rather than waiting on a USCIS petition decision. Johns Lyng USA must have a certified LCA in hand before you book your appointment at a U.S. consulate in Australia, so confirm that filing timeline with HR early.
Prepare for nonimmigrant intent questions in construction contexts
Construction and real estate roles can raise questions about long-term intent at the E-3 interview, particularly if the project scope extends several years. Frame your interview answers around the specific project or contract period, and bring documentation showing your ties to Australia alongside your signed employment offer.
Johns Lyng Group E-3 Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Johns Lyng USA sponsor E-3 visas?
Yes, Johns Lyng USA sponsors E-3 visas for Australian nationals in qualifying roles within its construction and real estate operations. Sponsorship is tied to specialty occupation positions, so eligibility depends on whether your specific role requires a relevant bachelor's degree. Confirm the role's qualification requirements directly with the hiring team before applying.
Which roles at Johns Lyng USA typically qualify for E-3 sponsorship?
E-3 sponsorship at Johns Lyng USA is most common in roles that meet the specialty occupation definition, such as project managers, estimators, and technical operations professionals. These positions require a bachelor's degree in a directly related field, which satisfies USCIS criteria. General trades or supervisory roles without a degree requirement are less likely to qualify.
How do I start the E-3 application process at Johns Lyng USA?
Once you have a written job offer, Johns Lyng USA's HR or legal team files a Labor Condition Application with the DOL. After LCA certification, you complete the DS-160 online and schedule a visa interview at a U.S. consulate in Australia. You can use Migrate Mate to manage the filing process and track each step through to your consulate appointment.
How long does E-3 sponsorship take at Johns Lyng USA?
LCA certification through the DOL typically takes around seven business days. After that, consulate appointment availability in Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth determines the overall timeline, which can range from two to eight weeks depending on demand. Unlike the H-1B visa, there is no USCIS petition stage, so the E-3 process moves faster from offer to visa stamp.
How do I strengthen my E-3 application for a Johns Lyng USA role?
Document the direct connection between your Australian degree and the specific role you're applying for, since consular officers assess specialty occupation status at the interview. Bring your certified LCA, employment offer letter, academic transcripts, and evidence of relevant experience. Verifying that the offered salary meets the DOL prevailing wage for your location beforehand removes a common stumbling block.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 sponsorship at Johns Lyng USA?
E-3 employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, determined when they file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, ensuring Australian hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
