Align your degree to Milbank's practice groups
Milbank hires E-3 candidates primarily into transactional roles like leveraged finance, capital markets, and M&A. Your law degree must map directly to the role you're applying for. A specialty occupation argument is stronger when your credentials align with a specific practice group, not a general legal function.
Verify your LCA wage tier before negotiating
Milbank's E-3 filings require a certified Labor Condition Application at the prevailing wage for your role and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check the wage level for your job title in New York before your offer discussion, so you're not caught off guard by the minimum.
Flag E-3 eligibility early in recruiter conversations
BigLaw recruiting timelines move fast. Raise your E-3 status during your initial recruiter screen, not after an offer. Milbank's legal hiring teams are familiar with E-3 mechanics, but surfacing it early lets them align their immigration counsel and avoid delays in the LCA filing process.
Search Milbank's verified E-3 filing history on Migrate Mate
Before applying, use Migrate Mate to review Milbank's DOL Labor Condition Application data by role and office. This shows you which job titles and practice areas Milbank has actively filed E-3 petitions for, so you can target the roles with a demonstrated sponsorship track record.
Prepare your specialty occupation documentation in advance
USCIS scrutinizes specialty occupation claims for legal roles. Have your Australian law degree equivalency letter, academic transcripts, and any U.S. bar admission or admission-pending documentation ready before your interview. Law firm immigration counsel will request these immediately after an offer is extended.
Understand how Milbank handles consular versus change of status filings
If you're already in the U.S. on another nonimmigrant status, ask Milbank's immigration team whether they'll file for a change of status or require consular processing in Australia. The answer affects your start date, travel restrictions during adjudication, and any gap in work authorization.
MILBANK LLP E-3 Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Milbank sponsor E-3 visas?
Yes, Milbank sponsors E-3 visas for qualified Australian nationals in eligible legal roles. The firm has an established immigration program and works with experienced outside counsel to manage the LCA filing and I-129 petition process. Roles in transactional practice groups have the clearest track record of E-3 sponsorship at the firm.
Which roles and departments at Milbank typically receive E-3 sponsorship?
E-3 sponsorship at Milbank is most common in associate-level roles within capital markets, leveraged finance, M&A, and restructuring. These practice areas require a law degree with a specific field of study, which satisfies the specialty occupation requirement. Business services and non-legal roles are less consistently sponsored under E-3.
How do I navigate the E-3 application process at Milbank?
After an offer is extended, Milbank's immigration counsel files a Labor Condition Application with the DOL and, once certified, either files an I-129 petition with USCIS or supports your consular application in Australia. You'll need to provide your degree credentials, a valid passport, and any existing U.S. immigration documents. The process typically takes several weeks from offer to visa stamp.
How long does E-3 sponsorship at Milbank typically take?
LCA certification usually takes around seven business days after DOL submission. If you're applying at a U.S. consulate in Australia, appointment availability drives most of the timeline variance. Change of status filings with USCIS can take several months under standard processing. Ask Milbank's immigration team whether premium processing is available for your filing.
How do I find E-3 job openings at Milbank?
Use Migrate Mate to search Milbank's active job listings filtered for E-3 sponsorship eligibility, alongside the firm's DOL filing history by role and location. You can also monitor Milbank's careers page directly for associate and lateral openings. Targeting roles in practice groups with prior E-3 filings gives you the strongest foundation for a sponsorship conversation.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 sponsorship at Milbank?
E-3 employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, determined when they file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, ensuring Australian hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
