Align your credentials with specialty occupation standards
Northern Trust's E-3 roles in portfolio management, risk, and compliance require a degree directly tied to the job function. Before applying, verify your Australian qualification maps to the specific role using O*NET to confirm the specialty occupation classification holds under USCIS standards.
Target teams with recurring international hiring patterns
Asset servicing, custody operations, and quantitative analytics at Northern Trust have historically brought in international talent. Focus your applications on these functional areas rather than generalist roles, which are less likely to meet the specialty occupation threshold required for E-3 approval.
Request LCA filing before accepting an offer
Northern Trust's HR or immigration counsel files the Labor Condition Application with DOL before your visa appointment. Confirm the LCA has been certified and that your offered salary meets the prevailing wage for your role level, which you can cross-check using the OFLC Wage Search.
Use Migrate Mate to identify your E-3 filing eligibility
Before negotiating your start date with Northern Trust, use Migrate Mate to confirm your role qualifies under E-3 specialty occupation rules and to understand the filing sequence. Knowing the timeline upfront lets you set realistic expectations with your hiring manager during the offer stage.
Prepare your degree equivalency documentation early
Australian three-year bachelor's degrees are generally accepted for E-3 purposes, but Northern Trust's immigration team may request a credential evaluation for roles in quantitative finance or technology. Arrange a NACES-member evaluation before your consular appointment to avoid delays in the process.
Book your consular appointment after LCA certification
Your E-3 visa interview at a U.S. consulate in Australia cannot proceed until the certified LCA is in hand. Once Northern Trust's DOL filing clears, typically within seven business days, schedule your appointment promptly since consulate wait times can vary significantly by location and season.
Northern Trust Corp. E-3 Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Northern Trust Company sponsor E-3 visas?
Yes, Northern Trust Company sponsors E-3 visas for Australian professionals in qualifying specialty occupation roles. Sponsorship is most common in investment management, financial technology, risk, compliance, and asset servicing functions. Northern Trust works with immigration counsel to manage the LCA filing and supports employees through the consular application process.
Which roles and departments at Northern Trust typically receive E-3 sponsorship?
E-3 sponsorship at Northern Trust tends to concentrate in roles requiring specialized financial or technical degrees, including portfolio analytics, risk management, compliance, financial technology, and custody operations. Generalist or administrative roles are less likely to qualify because they may not meet the specialty occupation definition required by USCIS for E-3 approval.
How do I navigate the E-3 application process at Northern Trust Company?
After receiving a job offer, Northern Trust's HR team engages immigration counsel to file the Labor Condition Application with DOL. Once the LCA is certified, you complete the DS-160, pay the visa fee, and attend a consular interview in Australia. Migrate Mate can help you verify your eligibility and prepare your documentation before that appointment.
How long does the E-3 sponsorship process take at Northern Trust Company?
The DOL certifies the LCA within approximately seven business days when filed correctly. After that, consular appointment availability in Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth determines the overall timeline. Most applicants complete the process within four to eight weeks of receiving a certified LCA, though peak periods at consulates can extend that window.
What practical steps improve my chances of securing E-3 sponsorship at Northern Trust?
Demonstrate a clear, direct connection between your Australian degree and the specific role you're applying for. Roles in quantitative finance or technology may require a credential evaluation. Confirm with your recruiter early that Northern Trust will support E-3 sponsorship, and use the OFLC Wage Search to verify your expected salary meets the prevailing wage for your position level.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 sponsorship at Northern Trust Company?
E-3 employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, determined when they file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, ensuring Australian hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
