Tailor your credentials for BigLaw standards
Skadden recruits attorneys with elite academic backgrounds and specialized legal expertise. Before applying, ensure your Australian law degree equivalency is clearly documented and your practice area aligns with Skadden's active groups, such as M&A, capital markets, or litigation.
Target lateral associate and summer programs
Skadden hires E-3 candidates primarily through lateral associate recruitment and its summer associate program. Lateral roles in practice groups with high deal flow are your strongest entry point, so focus applications on transactional teams where Australian legal experience directly transfers.
Confirm your role qualifies as a specialty occupation
USCIS requires E-3 roles to meet the specialty occupation standard, meaning at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field is required. For Skadden attorney roles, your J.D. or Australian law degree must demonstrably connect to the specific legal work you'll perform.
Verify prevailing wage before salary negotiations
Skadden must file a Labor Condition Application certifying your salary meets DOL prevailing wage levels for your role and location. Run your job title and office city through the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating so you know the floor and can benchmark your offer accurately.
Use Migrate Mate to confirm Skadden's E-3 filing history
Before investing time in Skadden's application process, verify their E-3 sponsorship track record by checking Migrate Mate, which surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application data by employer and role so you can see which practice areas and office locations have supported E-3 filings.
Understand the consular filing timeline for BigLaw start dates
E-3 visas are obtained at a U.S. consulate in Australia, not through USCIS, so your LCA certification and DS-160 must be ready before your interview. Skadden start dates for associates are often firm, so build in enough lead time to avoid consulate scheduling delays.

E-3 sponsorship at Skadden is concentrated in attorney-track positions, particularly associate roles in transactional practice groups such as mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, and finance. Staff attorney and counsel positions may also be eligible depending on practice area demand and office location.
How do I start the E-3 application process at Skadden Arps Slate Meagher Flom?

You can also apply directly through Skadden's careers portal and confirm E-3 eligibility with their recruiting team during initial screening conversations.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 sponsorship at Skadden Arps Slate Meagher Flom?

You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
