Align your degree to the role
Via Transportation's E-3 roles in software engineering and data require your degree field to directly match the position. A computer science or engineering degree supports most technical roles, but a business degree alone won't satisfy specialty occupation requirements for engineering titles.
Research Via's tech stack before applying
Via builds transit and mobility software, so targeting teams working on routing algorithms, fleet management platforms, or API integrations sharpens your application. Showing domain fluency in those areas signals you're ready to contribute without a long ramp-up.
Confirm prevailing wage before negotiating salary
Your E-3 salary must meet the DOL prevailing wage for your job title and work location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the wage level for your specific role in the city where Via has you working before any offer discussion.
Clarify the LCA timeline with your recruiter
The Labor Condition Application must be certified by DOL before your visa interview. When you receive an offer, ask Via's HR or immigration team how long LCA certification typically takes on their end so you can plan your consulate appointment accordingly.
Use Migrate Mate to file your E-3 once you have an offer
Once Via issues your offer letter and the LCA is certified, Migrate Mate handles the E-3 filing at a flat fee with a dedicated visa expert. That covers document preparation and review so you arrive at your consulate appointment with a complete package.
Check your occupation's specialty status using O*NET
Not every technology role automatically qualifies as a specialty occupation. Look up your job title in O*NET to confirm it requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. This data is also what USCIS and consular officers use to evaluate your application.
Via Transportation E-3 Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Via Transportation sponsor E-3 visas?
Yes, Via Transportation sponsors E-3 visas for qualifying Australian nationals. The company operates across multiple visa categories including E-3, H-1B visa, and F-1 OPT, and has filed E-3 Labor Condition Applications for technology and software roles. Australian candidates with a relevant degree and a job offer from Via can pursue E-3 sponsorship through the standard consular process.
Which roles at Via Transportation typically qualify for E-3 sponsorship?
E-3 sponsorship at Via Transportation is most common in software engineering, data engineering, product management, and technical operations roles. These positions typically satisfy the specialty occupation requirement because they demand a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field such as computer science, information systems, or engineering.
How do I start the E-3 application process at Via Transportation?
Once Via extends a job offer, their HR or legal team files a Labor Condition Application with DOL. After LCA certification, you complete the DS-160, pay the visa fee, and schedule a consulate appointment in Australia. You don't file anything with USCIS for an E-3. Migrate Mate can manage your side of the filing and document preparation once the offer is in hand.
How long does E-3 sponsorship take at Via Transportation?
LCA certification typically takes seven business days once Via submits to DOL. Consulate appointment availability in Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth then determines the overall timeline. In periods of normal demand, most applicants complete the process within four to eight weeks of receiving their offer letter, though consulate wait times vary seasonally.
What should I prepare before applying to Via Transportation for an E-3 role?
Confirm your degree field aligns with the specific role using O*NET before applying. Prepare transcripts, degree certificates, and any credential evaluations showing your qualification meets U.S. specialty occupation standards. Research the DOL prevailing wage for your title and location using the OFLC Wage Search so your salary expectations are grounded when you reach the offer stage.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 sponsorship at Via Transportation?
E-3 employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, determined when they file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, ensuring Australian hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
