Align your degree to WilmerHale's practice groups
WilmerHale hires across litigation, corporate, regulatory, and intellectual property teams. Your E-3 application requires a direct tie between your Australian law degree and the specific practice area you're targeting, so tailor your materials to the group's work, not the firm generally.
Verify your role qualifies as a specialty occupation
Not every legal role at a large firm clears the E-3 specialty occupation bar automatically. Cross-reference your target job title against the O*NET occupation profile before applying, confirming the role's standard requirement is a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field.
Research WilmerHale's LCA filings before your interview
Use Migrate Mate to review WilmerHale's Labor Condition Application history by role and office location. This tells you which positions the firm has actively sponsored and helps you frame your E-3 conversation with the recruiting team around roles they've filed for before.
Prepare your prevailing wage documentation early
WilmerHale's legal roles are typically subject to DOL prevailing wage requirements tied to the office location. Run the OFLC Wage Search for your target job title and city before your offer stage so you can discuss compensation confidently and flag any misalignment with your recruiter.
Confirm the firm's LCA filing timeline with HR directly
Large law firms often have structured onboarding windows tied to bar admission cycles. Ask WilmerHale's HR or recruiting team when they typically initiate LCA filings for E-3 candidates, since DOL certification must precede your consular appointment and timing affects your start date.
Bring a certified copy of your Australian degree to the interview
U.S. consular officers assess whether your Australian qualification meets the specialty occupation standard. WilmerHale's international hires regularly present official transcripts showing their Juris Doctor or LLB equivalency, so have certified copies ready before your visa appointment rather than sourcing them after an offer.
WilmerHale E-3 Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr sponsor E-3 visas?
Yes, WilmerHale sponsors E-3 visas for qualifying Australian nationals in legal professional roles. The firm has an established immigration support infrastructure and works with candidates on visa filings as part of its international hiring process. Sponsorship is most common for associate attorney and specialist legal positions tied to specific practice groups.
Which roles and departments at WilmerHale typically receive E-3 sponsorship?
E-3 sponsorship at WilmerHale is most consistently associated with associate attorney roles across practice areas including litigation, corporate transactions, regulatory affairs, and intellectual property. Legal research and policy-facing positions may also qualify, provided the role requires a specific qualifying degree and meets the specialty occupation standard under E-3 criteria.
How do I navigate the E-3 application process after receiving an offer from WilmerHale?
Once WilmerHale extends an offer, the firm's HR or immigration team typically coordinates the Labor Condition Application filing with DOL. After LCA certification, you schedule your consular interview in Australia and attend with your DS-160, offer letter, certified LCA, and degree documentation. USCIS is not directly involved in the E-3 consular process.
How long does the E-3 sponsorship process take at WilmerHale?
The LCA certification step generally takes around seven business days with DOL. Consular appointment wait times vary by location and season. In practice, candidates should build at least four to six weeks into their planning from offer acceptance to visa stamp, though peak periods at Australian consulates can extend this timeline.
How do I find open E-3 roles at WilmerHale?
Migrate Mate surfaces WilmerHale's verified E-3 sponsorship history alongside current job openings, so you can see which roles the firm has filed Labor Condition Applications for and apply directly. Searching for positions by practice group and cross-referencing with the firm's hiring cycle around bar admission periods improves your targeting considerably.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 sponsorship at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr?
E-3 employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, determined when they file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, ensuring Australian hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
