Align your degree to specialty occupation standards
USCIS requires a direct connection between your engineering degree and the Civil Project Engineer role. A degree in civil, structural, or environmental engineering maps cleanly. A broader STEM degree needs supporting coursework documentation to satisfy the specialty occupation standard.
Target Freese and Nichols practices that match your discipline
Freese and Nichols organizes work across water resources, transportation, and municipal services. Applying to a practice area where your project experience directly fits strengthens your candidacy and gives the hiring team a concrete case for sponsorship from the start.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Civil Project Engineer roles
Freese and Nichols posts Civil Project Engineer openings across multiple offices and service lines. Migrate Mate lets you filter specifically for visa-sponsoring roles at Freese and Nichols so you're only spending time on positions where sponsorship is actively on the table.
Prepare your EIT or PE credentials before the offer stage
Freese and Nichols frequently expects engineers to hold an Engineer-in-Training certification or be progressing toward Professional Engineer licensure. Having your EIT documentation ready signals readiness and removes a common hiring hesitation before the offer conversation begins.
Confirm the office location drives your LCA prevailing wage
Freese and Nichols operates across Texas, the Southeast, and beyond. The DOL Labor Condition Application ties your certified wage to the specific worksite metro area, so your offer and sponsorship paperwork must reflect the actual office location, not company headquarters.

Find Civil Project Engineer at Freese and Nichols JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Freese and Nichols sponsor H-1B visas for Civil Project Engineers?
Yes, Freese and Nichols sponsors H-1B visas for Civil Project Engineers. The firm operates in consulting and professional services, where civil engineering roles consistently qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards. Sponsorship decisions are made at the practice and office level, so connecting with the specific team hiring for your discipline gives you the clearest picture of where sponsorship is available.
How do I apply for Civil Project Engineer jobs at Freese and Nichols?
You can browse and apply for Civil Project Engineer openings directly through the Freese and Nichols careers portal. For international candidates needing visa sponsorship, Migrate Mate aggregates their open roles and filters specifically for positions where sponsorship is offered, which saves time compared to reviewing each posting individually. Tailor your application to the specific service line, whether water, transportation, or municipal, you're targeting.
Which visa types does Freese and Nichols commonly use for Civil Project Engineers?
Freese and Nichols sponsors H-1B visas and supports F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates, which is common in engineering consulting firms that recruit from universities. TN status is an option for Canadian and Mexican engineers, since civil engineers are an explicitly listed USMCA profession. J-1 sponsorship is also available, typically for internship or training arrangements within the firm.
What qualifications does Freese and Nichols expect for Civil Project Engineer roles?
Most Civil Project Engineer roles at Freese and Nichols require a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field, along with a current Engineer-in-Training certification or active progress toward Professional Engineer licensure. Relevant project experience in water infrastructure, roadway design, or municipal systems is often expected. For H-1B sponsorship purposes, your degree field should align directly with the specific engineering discipline the role requires.
How do I time my application around OPT and H-1B filing deadlines?
If you're on F-1 OPT, USCIS allows a cap-gap extension that bridges your status if an H-1B petition is filed on your behalf before OPT expires. H-1B registration opens in March each year, with employment start dates no earlier than October 1. To stay covered, your Freese and Nichols offer and I-129 petition need to be in motion well before the March registration window, so beginning conversations with recruiters in late fall is a practical starting point.
