Target roles in R&D and food science
General Mills's innovation pipeline in food science, flavor development, and product engineering tends to require specialized degrees, the kind of specialty occupation profile that supports H-1B and Green Card sponsorship. These technical functions are where international hiring is most consistent.
Understand that Green Card sponsorship is a real pathway here
General Mills has a strong track record of sponsoring permanent residence, particularly through EB-2 and EB-3 categories. If long-term U.S. settlement is your goal, ask about PERM timelines during the offer stage, not after you've accepted.
Apply early in the recruiting cycle for H-1B cap consideration
H-1B cap petitions must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start. If you're on OPT, General Mills will need time to prepare your petition. Reach out to recruiters before January to confirm sponsorship intent and leave enough preparation time.
Highlight cross-functional skills relevant to food and beverage operations
General Mills sponsors across supply chain, engineering, data analytics, and commercial functions. Framing your background around the specific business challenges of consumer packaged goods, cost optimization, manufacturing efficiency, brand growth, strengthens your candidacy and sponsorship case.
Verify sponsorship availability before investing in the application
Not every General Mills role comes with sponsorship. Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsoring employers and surface General Mills openings confirmed for international candidates, so you're not chasing roles that won't move forward.
Leverage OPT and CPT to build your case before full sponsorship
General Mills participates in F-1 OPT and CPT programs, which gives international students a foot in the door. Demonstrating strong performance during an internship or OPT period significantly improves your chances of securing full H-1B sponsorship when the time comes.

Which visa types does General Mills sponsor?
General Mills sponsors a range of visa categories including H-1B, TN visa, J-1 visa, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT for temporary work authorization, as well as EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for eligible employees pursuing permanent residence. The mix of nonimmigrant and immigrant visa sponsorship makes General Mills a strong long-term option for international professionals.
Which departments or roles at General Mills are most likely to offer visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at General Mills tends to concentrate in roles requiring specialized expertise, food scientists, process engineers, data analysts, supply chain managers, and R&D professionals are among the strongest fits. Corporate functions like finance and marketing can also be eligible, though sponsorship in those areas is less consistent. Degrees in food science, chemical engineering, or data science align well with their sponsorship history.
