ROLE SUMMARY
The Sugar Shelling Machine Operator role is responsible for driving Georgia Nut Company's (GNC) manual sugar shelling conventional panning process in order to create high quality finished goods while striving for continuous improvement. The role will work with the operations team to run the shelling equipment in accordance with customer specifications, while maintaining GNC's 5s, completing the proper paperwork, reporting inefficiencies, keeping accurate inventory, adhering to GNC general manufacturing practices (GMPs), and following GNC's sanitation and safety protocols.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Report food and quality issues as well as employee safety to their supervisor.
- Follow allergen procedures and perform sanitation steps as trained.
- Follow all formulas and customer specifications as described in the billing of materials.
- Meet/exceed efficiencies while communicating inefficiencies (down time).
- Document all production, quality, safety, and sanitation reports accurately and clearly.
- Clock/tag in and out of proper departments as required.
- Start, stop, adjust, and operate machine using approved methods, supervisor/lead when repairs or adjustments are beyond the scope of their expertise.
- Train and assist other employees as needed.
- Present continuous improvement ideas to supervisor or department lead.
- Maintain 5s by keeping work area clean and organized.
- Validate transfers, consume correctly, and keep accurate inventory.
- Follow all general manufacturing practices (GMPs) and comply with GNC policies and procedures.
- Report scrap according to procedure and always run retain if needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor/lead.
Physical Requirements
- Must wear proper personal protective equipment including uniform, face mask, hair net, latex gloves, bump cap, earplugs, and safety shoes.
- Will be standing on concrete, bending, stooping, twisting, and turning for an extended period of time.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Required to work weekends during peak season and/or overtime when needed.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be well-organized with high attention to detail.
- Ability to successfully prioritize workload.
- The ability to perform basic math and reading skills, such as: reading labels, formulas, and directions.
- Ability to perform basic knowledge of measurement, percentages, and ratios.
- Ability to communicate and write effectively in English.
- Flexible working hours for a seven-day operation.
- Dependable and adaptable to a fast pace work environment.
