Align your degree to GHD's project portfolio
GHD's Development Engineer roles span water, transportation, and environmental sectors. A degree in civil, environmental, or structural engineering strengthens your specialty occupation case and signals you're built for their core service lines, not a generalist fit.
Target offices with active infrastructure pipelines
GHD operates across multiple U.S. regions, and hiring activity for Development Engineers concentrates where large infrastructure or environmental projects are funded. Applying to offices with active DOT or municipal contracts improves your chances of a role with genuine sponsorship need.
Confirm OPT eligibility before your final year
GHD sponsors F-1 OPT, making it a realistic entry point for recent engineering graduates. Confirm your STEM OPT extension eligibility early. If your degree qualifies, you have up to three years of authorized work before an H-1B or Green Card petition becomes urgent.
Ask about PERM timing during offer negotiations
For EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, PERM labor certification is the first step and can take a year or more. Ask the recruiter directly whether GHD initiates PERM concurrently with H-1B filing or waits. Knowing their process helps you plan your long-term status timeline accurately.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Development Engineer roles
GHD posts Development Engineer openings across multiple locations at once. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for GHD roles that match your visa type, so you're applying to positions where sponsorship is already confirmed rather than cold-guessing from a generic job board.
Prepare a professional experience portfolio for TN eligibility
Canadian and Mexican nationals can pursue GHD roles under TN status without waiting for H-1B selection. USCIS and CBP require engineer TN applicants to hold a qualifying degree. Have your credentials, employer letter, and job description aligned to the TN engineer category before crossing.

Find Development Engineer at GHD JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does GHD sponsor H-1B visas for Development Engineers?
Yes, GHD sponsors H-1B visas for Development Engineers. Because H-1B is subject to the annual lottery, GHD typically files petitions in April for the October start date. If you're on OPT when you receive an offer, your F-1 status covers you while a petition is pending, provided GHD files before your OPT expires.
How do I apply for Development Engineer jobs at GHD?
Applications go through GHD's careers portal, where roles are listed by region and discipline. Tailor your resume to the specific engineering discipline listed, whether that's water, transportation, or environmental. Migrate Mate also aggregates GHD's Development Engineer openings filtered by visa sponsorship type, which makes it easier to identify roles where you're eligible before applying.
Which visa types does GHD commonly use for Development Engineer roles?
GHD sponsors across several visa categories for this role, including H-1B, F-1 OPT and CPT, TN, J-1, and employment-based Green Cards through EB-2 and EB-3. The right path depends on your nationality, education, and career stage. Early-career candidates often start on OPT before transitioning to H-1B, while experienced engineers may move directly into permanent residence sponsorship.
What qualifications does GHD expect for Development Engineer positions?
GHD's Development Engineer roles typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline such as civil, environmental, structural, or mechanical engineering. For visa purposes, the degree must align directly with the job duties to satisfy the H-1B specialty occupation standard. Professional engineer licensure or progress toward it is valued, particularly for roles on regulated infrastructure projects.
How long does the sponsorship process take for a Development Engineer at GHD?
Timeline depends on your visa type. OPT authorization is relatively immediate if you're already in F-1 status. H-1B sponsorship follows the April lottery cycle with an October start. EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through PERM typically takes one to three years from initial filing to DOL certification, before USCIS petition and consular or adjustment processing begins.
