Align your license to U.S. standards early
GHD's infrastructure projects require state-issued electrical licenses, not just international credentials. Research the licensing requirements for your target state before applying, since the process can take months and directly affects your eligibility to work on project sites.
Target GHD's infrastructure and energy divisions
GHD staffs Electricians primarily across power, water, and built environment programs. Tailoring your resume to highlight project types in those sectors, rather than general electrical work, makes your application far more relevant to their active hiring teams.
Understand how PERM affects your timeline
If GHD sponsors you for an EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card, the PERM labor certification process through DOL can add a year or more before your petition is filed. Starting conversations about sponsorship intent during the offer stage gives you a clearer picture of the full timeline.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Electrician roles at GHD
GHD posts Electrician openings across multiple locations and project programs at any given time. Migrate Mate filters those roles by visa sponsorship type, so you can quickly identify positions where your specific visa situation is already supported.
Clarify OPT or CPT authorization before your start date
If you're on F-1 status, confirm that your program's STEM OPT extension covers electrical work under your CIP code before accepting an offer. Misalignment between your authorized field and job duties can jeopardize your work authorization mid-engagement.
Negotiate sponsorship terms before signing your offer
GHD's consulting structure means project staffing timelines shift frequently. Confirming which visa category they'll pursue, who pays filing fees, and what happens if a project ends early protects you from gaps in status that can be difficult to resolve after the fact.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does GHD sponsor H-1B visas for Electricians?
GHD's sponsorship activity for Electricians has focused on permanent resident pathways like EB-2 and EB-3 rather than H-1B visa. That pattern reflects the trade and project-based nature of electrical work in consulting firms, where degree requirements can be harder to meet for H-1B specialty occupation classification. If you're targeting GHD, clarifying the specific visa category they'd pursue for your role during the offer stage is the right move.
How do I apply for Electrician jobs at GHD?
Applications for Electrician roles at GHD go through their careers portal, where you can filter by location and job function. Migrate Mate is the most direct way to surface GHD's Electrician openings that are flagged for visa sponsorship, so you're not applying blind to roles that won't support your status. Tailor your resume to the specific project sector listed in the job description, since GHD hires across infrastructure, energy, and environmental programs with different credential expectations.
Which visa types does GHD commonly use for Electrician roles?
GHD has sponsored Electricians through EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa pathways, as well as F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN visa, and J-1 visa for eligible workers. TN visa is an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying electrical occupations under USMCA. The right category depends on your nationality, education level, and where you are in your career, so it's worth discussing with GHD's HR team which pathway fits your profile.
What qualifications does GHD expect for sponsored Electrician roles?
GHD typically expects licensed journeyman or master electricians with experience on commercial, industrial, or infrastructure projects. For sponsored candidates, having a relevant degree or formally recognized trade qualification matters more than it would for domestic hires, since it directly affects which visa pathway GHD can use. Project management experience and familiarity with U.S. electrical codes like the National Electrical Code are common differentiators in competitive applicant pools.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for an Electrician at GHD?
Timeline varies significantly by visa type. TN and F-1 OPT authorizations can be in place within weeks of an offer, while EB-3 sponsorship through the PERM process at DOL typically takes one to two years before USCIS even begins adjudicating your immigrant petition. If your priority date is backlogged, total Green Card timelines can extend well beyond that. Getting written clarity on GHD's intended sponsorship path and expected milestones before you accept an offer helps you plan around the timeline realistically.
