Job Description
CBIZ’s National Tax Office is in search of a Subject Matter Expert to serve as the National Co-Leader of its Partnership/LLC tax practice. The ideal candidate will bring premier expertise as it relates to the complex world of partnership and LLC taxation. Given our rapid growth both organically and via acquisitions, we are in need of a high-level candidate, so that we can shape internal policy and maintain an acceptable level of responsiveness to our offices' consultation needs in this area.
Essential Functions And Primary Duties
- Provide tax consultation to tax professionals in our practice offices on a variety of client tax matters throughout our national footprint. A primary emphasis will involve the “700 series” of the Internal Revenue Code, with secondary involvement in other ubiquitous areas of federal taxation (e.g., sections 170, 453, 469, etc.) as needed.
- Serve as the National Co-Leader for the Partnerships/LLC tax practice, which involves shaping and maintaining associated national policies and standards, providing timely insight on emerging technical matters, and identifying and implementing associated tax planning initiatives.
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for complex questions from our practice offices involving partnership pass-through taxation, such as mergers/acquisitions, equity-based compensation, profit/loss allocations (including waterfall and target capital allocations), profits interests, treatment of debt and quasi-debt instruments, impact of recourse vs. nonrecourse financing, debt work-outs, minimum gain allocations, tiered partnership issues, special basis adjustments and step-up allocations, hot assets, IRS audits, conflicts of interest among equity holders and the entity, partner/member/shareholder agreements, self-employment and limited partner determinations, private letter ruling requests, etc.
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for tax compliance reporting questions involving partnership pass-through taxation, such as evolving information disclosure requirements, amended return procedures, administrative adjustment requests, partnership representative matters, etc.
- In addition to providing client consultation in a variety of tax technical areas, we expect this person to contribute to the National Tax Office’s thought leadership programs, training programs, and risk management initiatives. This includes ongoing familiarity with trending legislative, administrative, and judicial developments. This would supplement current resources performing in those areas. Flexibility to travel is important, as programs and meetings occur across the country.
- The candidate should have a vision on how to expand the NTO billable practice in the partnership/LLC tax area, with the goal of hiring more partnership/LLC subject matter experts into NTO to assist the leaders.
- In addition to the role of Co-Leader of the NTO Partnership/LLC tax practice, the candidate should have broad expertise across the gamut of domestic federal tax issues. Many of the inquiries from local offices involve complex or unusual issues that require the expertise of our group but cannot be limited to specific sections or areas of the Internal Revenue Code. All NTO team members are expected to help answer these inquiries in a way that provides the best client service experience.

Align your credentials with EB-2 or EB-3
CBIZ's accounting and auditing roles typically qualify under EB-2 for licensed CPAs with advanced specializations or under EB-3 for staff-level positions requiring a bachelor's degree. Confirm your degree and licensure tier before applying, since the category determines your PERM labor certification timeline and priority date.
Map your role to PERM-eligible job codes
Before your first interview, look up your target role on O*NET to confirm it maps to a PERM-eligible occupation code. Auditors and tax specialists at CBIZ file under specific SOC codes that affect the prevailing wage DOL certifies, so mismatches between your actual duties and the filed job description can delay or derail certification.
Verify your offered salary clears the prevailing wage
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the DOL prevailing wage for your role, level, and metro area before accepting an offer. CBIZ must pay at or above that wage throughout the PERM process, and a salary that falls short will require a renegotiation that can restart the timeline entirely.
Target CBIZ practice areas with sustained sponsorship history
Tax advisory, assurance, and financial consulting teams within CBIZ have the most consistent Green Card sponsorship activity. When applying, prioritize these practice areas and ask recruiters directly whether the specific team has an established pipeline for permanent residency support, since sponsorship availability varies by office and service line.
Use Migrate Mate to track CBIZ's filing patterns
Before negotiating your Green Card commitment with a CBIZ recruiter, use Migrate Mate to review CBIZ's historical filing activity by role type and office location. That data tells you which practice areas sponsor most actively, so your conversations with hiring managers are grounded in the firm's actual sponsorship behavior.
Secure a written sponsorship commitment before onboarding
Get CBIZ's Green Card sponsorship commitment documented in your offer letter or a separate written agreement before you start. PERM labor certification alone can take 12 to 18 months, and internal restructuring at large professional services firms sometimes shifts sponsorship support mid-process unless obligations are formalized at the offer stage.
CBIZ Green Card Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does CBIZ sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, CBIZ sponsors Green Card visas for qualifying employees in accounting, tax, and financial advisory roles. Sponsorship is typically tied to continued employment and is most common in the firm's assurance, tax, and management consulting practice areas. You'll need a full-time offer and to meet DOL prevailing wage requirements to be eligible.
Which roles at CBIZ are most likely to receive Green Card sponsorship?
Tax specialists, auditors, and financial consultants in CBIZ's core service lines are the roles most frequently supported for Green Card sponsorship. Licensed CPAs and professionals with advanced accounting credentials have the strongest case for EB-2 eligibility, while staff-level roles with a bachelor's degree typically qualify under EB-3 through the PERM labor certification process.
How do I start the Green Card process at CBIZ?
The process begins after you've accepted a full-time offer and CBIZ's HR or immigration team confirms sponsorship eligibility for your role. CBIZ then files a PERM labor certification with DOL, which involves a formal recruitment test to verify no qualified U.S. workers are available. After PERM approval, USCIS processes the immigrant visa petition before you can apply for permanent residency.
How long does the Green Card process take at CBIZ?
The PERM labor certification stage alone typically runs 12 to 18 months under normal DOL processing times. After PERM approval, USCIS adjudication of the immigrant petition adds additional time, and if your country of birth has a visa backlog, your priority date determines when you can finalize the Green Card. Total timelines from offer to approval often exceed two to three years.
How do I find open Green Card jobs at CBIZ?
Migrate Mate lists CBIZ roles filtered by verified sponsorship activity, so you can identify positions where Green Card support has historically been offered. Focus your search on CBIZ's tax and assurance divisions, and when you speak with recruiters, ask specifically whether the role is eligible for permanent residency sponsorship rather than assuming all positions qualify.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at CBIZ?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
