Match your credentials to DPS hiring priorities
DPS consistently sponsors Green Card visas for teachers in high-need subjects like special education, bilingual education, and STEM. Before applying, confirm your state teaching license and subject endorsement align with Colorado licensure requirements, since PERM labor certification requires the role to match your actual qualifications.
Understand the EB-2 versus EB-3 pathway difference
Most DPS classroom roles qualify under EB-3, which requires PERM labor certification. If you hold an advanced degree and your role involves specialized curriculum design or district-level policy, ask HR whether EB-2 applies, since it can move faster when PERM is waived through a National Interest Waiver.
Request a PERM timeline commitment before signing
PERM labor certification typically takes six to eighteen months before USCIS even receives your I-140 petition. Get written confirmation from DPS HR about when they intend to initiate PERM, so you're not caught mid-probationary period waiting on a process that hasn't started.
Use OFLC Wage Search to verify your offered salary
DPS must pay the DOL prevailing wage for your role and location throughout the Green Card process. Run your job title and Denver ZIP code through OFLC Wage Search before accepting an offer, so you can flag any underpayment before it becomes a PERM compliance issue.
Search DPS Green Card jobs on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters employer listings by verified Green Card sponsorship history using DOL Labor Condition Application data, so you can find active DPS openings where sponsorship is already confirmed rather than asking cold in interviews whether the district will sponsor your permanent residency.
Prepare your credential equivalency documentation early
If your teaching degree was earned outside the U.S., DPS and USCIS will require a foreign credential evaluation. Commission this from a NACES-approved evaluator well before your application reaches the I-140 stage, since processing delays on evaluations routinely hold up otherwise complete petitions.
Denver Public Schools Green Card Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Denver Public Schools sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, Denver Public Schools sponsors Green Card visas for qualifying employees, primarily through the EB-2 and EB-3 employment-based preference categories. Sponsorship is most common for teachers in shortage subjects and specialized support staff. The process typically begins with PERM labor certification filed by DPS through the DOL, followed by an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS.
Which roles at Denver Public Schools typically qualify for Green Card sponsorship?
Green Card sponsorship at DPS most commonly covers classroom teachers in high-need areas such as special education, English language development, and STEM subjects. Specialized roles in curriculum, school psychology, and speech-language pathology also see sponsorship. General administrative and paraprofessional positions are less frequently sponsored, so confirm eligibility directly with DPS HR during the hiring process.
How do I start the Green Card process at Denver Public Schools?
The process starts with DPS filing a PERM labor certification with the DOL on your behalf, which requires the district to conduct a formal recruitment test to demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers were available. After PERM is certified, DPS files an I-140 petition with USCIS. You can search current DPS Green Card sponsorship openings on Migrate Mate before reaching out to HR.
How long does the Green Card process take at Denver Public Schools?
Expect the full process to take several years from PERM filing to a Green Card being issued, depending on your country of birth and the priority date backlog for your preference category. PERM certification alone typically takes six to eighteen months. Born in countries with high demand for employment-based visas, such as India or China, face significantly longer waits due to annual per-country limits.
How do I know if a DPS job posting includes Green Card sponsorship?
DPS job postings don't always specify Green Card sponsorship upfront. The most reliable approach is to ask HR directly during the offer stage whether the position is eligible for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship and whether the district has an established process for initiating PERM. Reviewing DPS's DOL filing history by role category can also give you a clearer picture of which departments sponsor regularly.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at Denver Public Schools?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
