Target operations and technical roles first
First Student's Green Card filings tend to concentrate in professional and technical functions tied to fleet operations, safety, and logistics. Prioritize roles where specialized expertise is a genuine requirement, not positions where any general degree qualifies.
Understand EB-2 vs. EB-3 before you apply
First Student sponsors both EB-2 and EB-3 categories. EB-2 requires advanced degrees or exceptional ability; EB-3 covers skilled workers. Knowing which category your role falls under helps you ask the right sponsorship questions during interviews without catching hiring teams off guard.
Build internal relationships before making the ask
Green Card sponsorship at selective sponsors like First Student often depends on internal advocacy. Hiring managers who know your value are far more likely to escalate sponsorship requests to HR and legal than those evaluating you purely from a resume screening.
Verify Green Card sponsorship history before applying
Not every First Student role comes with Green Card sponsorship. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, helping you focus your applications on positions where sponsorship has actually been provided before.
Ask about PERM early in the interview process
The PERM labor certification process requires employers to document recruitment efforts before sponsoring you. Raising this early signals you understand the process and gives HR time to plan, rather than discovering late that timelines don't align with your current visa status.
Align your qualifications clearly with the job requirements
PERM requires First Student to prove your qualifications match the role's defined requirements. Make sure your resume, degree, and experience map precisely to the posted job description. Gaps between your background and the role's stated requirements can complicate the labor certification filing.
First Student Green Card Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does First Student sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, First Student sponsors Green Cards under the EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa categories. Sponsorship is selective and tied to specific professional and technical roles within its transportation operations, so it is not available for every position. Candidates should confirm sponsorship availability directly with the hiring team during the interview process.
Which roles and departments at First Student are most likely to receive Green Card sponsorship?
Green Card sponsorship at First Student tends to be concentrated in professional roles requiring specialized qualifications, such as technical, operations, safety, and corporate functions. Roles where a specific degree or advanced expertise is a genuine job requirement are more likely to qualify under EB-2 or EB-3 than generalist or entry-level positions.
How does the Green Card application process work at First Student?
For most sponsored roles, First Student would initiate the PERM labor certification process with the Department of Labor, documenting that no qualified U.S. workers were available for the position. Once certified, the company files an immigrant petition with USCIS on your behalf. Working with an immigration attorney that First Student designates is standard throughout this process.
How long does Green Card sponsorship take at First Student?
The full Green Card process from PERM filing to approval typically takes several years, depending on your country of birth and the visa category. PERM adjudication alone can take over a year. Applicants born in countries with high demand, such as India, should expect significantly longer waits due to annual per-country visa limits.
How do I find Green Card jobs at First Student that are open to sponsorship?
The most reliable approach is to search for First Student roles on Migrate Mate, which aggregates verified employer sponsorship histories so you can identify positions where Green Card sponsorship has previously been provided. From there, confirm sponsorship directly with the recruiter early in your conversations to avoid investing time in roles where it is not available.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at First Student?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
