Target Faculty and Research Roles First
Green Card sponsorship at Marquette University is most common in tenure-track faculty, postdoctoral research, and specialized academic staff positions. Prioritize these departments when applying, as they have the clearest institutional pathways for permanent residency support.
Understand the PERM Labor Certification Process
Most Marquette University Green Card sponsorships go through PERM, which requires the university to document that no qualified U.S. worker is available. Expect a formal recruitment process before your sponsorship petition moves forward, and be prepared for multi-step timelines.
Ask About Sponsorship During the Offer Stage
Raise Green Card sponsorship before signing your employment contract. Marquette's HR and international faculty offices can clarify which positions qualify and what the university's internal sponsorship policy covers, including whether legal fees are employer-paid.
Look for Roles in High-Demand Academic Departments
STEM, business, nursing, and engineering departments at Marquette University tend to have stronger hiring needs and longer-term retention goals, which often correlates with greater willingness to support Green Card sponsorship for the right candidates.
Use Verified Sponsorship Data When Job Searching
Not every open position at Marquette will lead to Green Card sponsorship. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, helping you focus your applications on roles where sponsorship is genuinely on the table.
Plan for a Multi-Year Timeline
Green Card processing through an educational employer like Marquette University can take several years depending on your country of birth and visa category. Starting the conversation early in your employment, ideally within your first year, gives you the best chance of a smooth process.
Marquette University Green Card Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Marquette University sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, Marquette University sponsors Green Card visas for qualifying employees, primarily in faculty, research, and specialized professional roles. Sponsorship is typically processed through the EB-2 or EB-3 employment-based categories and requires the university to initiate and support the petition on the employee's behalf.
Which roles and departments at Marquette University are most likely to receive Green Card sponsorship?
Tenure-track and tenured faculty positions are the most common Green Card-sponsored roles at Marquette University, followed by postdoctoral researchers and certain specialized administrative or technical staff. Departments in STEM fields, the health sciences, business, and engineering tend to have the most consistent sponsorship activity due to competitive hiring needs.
How do I navigate the Green Card application process at Marquette University?
The process typically begins with your department and HR confirming that your role qualifies for sponsorship. Marquette then works with an immigration attorney to file a PERM labor certification with the Department of Labor, followed by an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. Your involvement includes providing documentation of your qualifications and maintaining valid work authorization throughout.
How long does the Green Card process take at Marquette University?
Timelines vary significantly depending on your visa category and country of birth. The PERM stage alone can take a year or more, and applicants from countries with high demand, such as India or China, may face additional wait times in the employment-based visa queue. Starting early and maintaining continuous employment at Marquette throughout the process is essential.
How do I find Green Card-sponsored jobs at Marquette University?
Search Marquette University's official careers portal and filter for positions in academic or research departments where sponsorship is most common. Migrate Mate can also help, as it aggregates verified employer sponsorship histories so you can confirm that Marquette is an active Green Card sponsor before investing time in your application.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at Marquette University?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
