Map your role to EB classification early
Smith+Nephew files under EB-2 for roles requiring advanced degrees, such as R&D scientists and regulatory specialists, and EB-3 for skilled technical positions. Knowing which category fits your background before you apply shapes how you frame your credentials in interviews.
Document specialized medtech credentials thoroughly
Green Card filings in medical devices often face PERM scrutiny around specialty requirements. Gather degree transcripts, professional certifications, and any FDA-regulated product experience before your first interview so your employer's attorney can build the strongest possible labor certification case.
Research prevailing wage expectations before negotiating
Your offered salary must meet the DOL prevailing wage for your occupation and work location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the wage level for your job title in Smith+Nephew's primary U.S. hubs before you negotiate, so your offer won't need to be renegotiated after the PERM is filed.
Ask about sponsorship timelines during the offer stage
Smith+Nephew's HR and immigration counsel typically initiate PERM after a set tenure period. Ask directly during offer negotiation when the company starts the Green Card process for your role category, so you can plan your status continuity and any H-1B visa or E-3 visa extension needs around that window.
Use Migrate Mate to find roles with active Green Card filing history
Not every open role at Smith+Nephew comes with Green Card sponsorship. Migrate Mate filters job listings by verified DOL Labor Condition Application data, so you can target the specific teams and job titles where Smith+Nephew has consistently filed, rather than discovering sponsorship limitations after receiving an offer.
Align your job title to O*NET specialty occupation codes
During PERM, DOL evaluates whether the position genuinely requires a specialized degree. Review your target role's O*NET profile and ensure your job title, duties, and degree field are consistent across your resume, offer letter, and the PERM application to avoid a DOL audit or denial.
Smith+Nephew Green Card Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Smith+Nephew sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, Smith+Nephew sponsors Green Card visas for qualifying employees in the United States. The company files primarily through the employment-based EB-2 and EB-3 categories, covering roles in engineering, regulatory affairs, R&D, and clinical functions. Sponsorship is typically initiated after an employee has established tenure in a role the company intends to retain long-term.
Which roles at Smith+Nephew are most likely to receive Green Card sponsorship?
Green Card sponsorship at Smith+Nephew is most common in technical and professional roles tied to its medical devices operations, including R&D engineers, regulatory affairs specialists, quality assurance professionals, and clinical specialists. Corporate functions such as finance and IT have also seen filings. Roles requiring a specialized degree and hard-to-replace skill sets are the strongest candidates for sponsorship.
How do I start the Green Card process at Smith+Nephew?
The process typically begins with your employer's immigration attorney filing a PERM labor certification with DOL to demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers are available for the role. After PERM approval, Smith+Nephew files an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. Employees should raise Green Card sponsorship during the offer stage or in performance reviews to understand when the company will initiate the filing.
How long does the Green Card process take at Smith+Nephew?
The timeline depends on your EB category and country of birth. PERM labor certification typically takes six to eighteen months, followed by USCIS adjudication of the I-140 petition. For nationals of India and China, visa backlogs in EB-2 and EB-3 can extend the wait significantly beyond the initial filing stages. You'll need to maintain valid nonimmigrant status throughout.
How do I find Green Card jobs at Smith+Nephew on Migrate Mate?
Migrate Mate surfaces Smith+Nephew job listings filtered by verified DOL filing history, so you can identify the specific roles and locations where the company has sponsored Green Card and work visa filings. Search for Smith+Nephew on Migrate Mate, filter by Green Card sponsorship, and review which departments and job titles match your background before applying.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at Smith+Nephew?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
