Align your degree to Uber's EB-2 requirements
Uber files most of its Green Card petitions under EB-2, which requires an advanced degree or a bachelor's plus five years of progressive experience. Audit your credentials before applying so your resume and offer letter reflect the exact qualifications USCIS looks for in that category.
Target roles with PERM-eligible job descriptions
PERM labor certification requires a job description tied to a specific occupation code. Uber's engineering and data science roles typically align cleanly with DOL-defined specialty occupations. Cross-reference the role's duties against O*NET to confirm the match before you accept an offer.
Ask about Green Card timelines during offer negotiation
Uber's immigration team typically initiates PERM after you've been in role for roughly a year. Ask your recruiter directly whether the role has a Green Card track and at what milestone the process starts, so you can plan your H-1B visa extension needs against the PERM filing window.
Use Migrate Mate to verify Uber's LCA filing history
Before negotiating compensation, check what Uber has certified for similar roles through DOL's Labor Condition Application process. Migrate Mate surfaces Uber's LCA data by job title and location, so you can enter salary discussions knowing the prevailing wage floor for your specific occupation.
Benchmark your salary against OFLC Wage Search data
PERM requires Uber to pay at least the prevailing wage for your role and location. Pull the wage level for your SOC code using OFLC Wage Search before your offer stage, so you can identify whether the proposed salary supports a Level II or Level III PERM filing.
Secure your priority date as early as possible
For candidates from India or China, visa backlogs under EB-2 and EB-3 can run decades. Getting Uber to file your I-140 promptly locks in your priority date, which determines your place in the queue regardless of future employer changes under AC21 portability rules.
Uber Green Card Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Uber sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, Uber sponsors Green Card visas for qualifying full-time employees. Sponsorship is most common in engineering, data science, product management, and operations roles. The process typically begins after you've been in your role for a defined period, and Uber's in-house immigration team manages the PERM and I-140 filings with USCIS.
Which departments at Uber typically receive Green Card sponsorship?
Green Card sponsorship at Uber is concentrated in technical functions, including software engineering, machine learning, data science, and infrastructure. Product and operations roles with specialized degree requirements also qualify in many cases. Roles that don't require a specific degree field are less likely to support a PERM-based EB-2 or EB-3 filing.
How does the Green Card process work at Uber?
Uber's process typically starts with PERM labor certification through DOL, which can take a year or more to complete. Once PERM is certified, Uber files an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. After approval, you wait for a visa number to become available based on your priority date, then file for adjustment of status or consular processing.
How long does it take to get a Green Card through Uber?
The timeline depends on your nationality and the EB category Uber files under. For most countries outside India and China, the process can resolve in two to four years. For Indian and Chinese nationals under EB-2 or EB-3, backlogs can extend the wait significantly longer. Locking in your priority date early is the most important step you can take. Migrate Mate can help you search roles at Uber and other active Green Card sponsors to find the right starting point.
How do I improve my chances of getting Green Card sponsorship at Uber?
Target roles where your degree field maps directly to the job duties, since PERM requires a clear educational nexus. Uber's EB-2 filings favor candidates with advanced degrees or documented progressive experience. Raise the Green Card question during your offer stage, confirm the role has a sponsorship track, and get the expected filing milestone in writing before you sign.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at Uber?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
