Match your credentials to PERM requirements
Before applying, verify your degree and licensure meet the minimum requirements PERM labor certification demands for your target role. University Health's clinical positions often require state licensure, so confirm your credentials transfer to Texas before the employer initiates the PERM filing on your behalf.
Distinguish EB-2 from EB-3 eligibility early
University Health files both EB-2 and EB-3 petitions, but the pathway depends on the role's stated minimum requirements. EB-2 requires an advanced degree or exceptional ability; EB-3 covers roles requiring a bachelor's degree. Knowing which applies to your position affects your priority date and wait time significantly.
Target departments with documented sponsorship history
University Health's sponsorship activity concentrates in clinical specialties where hiring gaps are hardest to fill domestically. Nursing, radiology, pharmacy, and allied health roles are common sponsorship candidates. Focusing your application on these departments improves your chances of reaching a hiring manager who already understands the Green Card process.
Search verified sponsorship data on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter University Health job listings by Green Card sponsorship history. The platform surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application filing data by employer and role, so you can identify which positions have an active sponsorship track record before you invest time in a full application.
Negotiate sponsorship commitment before accepting an offer
Get written confirmation that University Health will initiate PERM before your first day. Some hospital systems require a tenure period before filing. Clarifying the employer's internal policy during offer negotiation prevents a situation where you're years into a role without a Green Card petition in motion.
Benchmark your offered salary against OFLC prevailing wages
PERM requires your wage to meet or exceed the DOL prevailing wage for your occupation and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to verify your offered salary qualifies before signing your contract. A wage below the prevailing threshold can delay or invalidate the entire labor certification filing.
University Health Green Card Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does University Health sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, University Health sponsors Green Cards for eligible employees, primarily through the EB-2 and EB-3 employment-based preference categories. Sponsorship is most common for clinical and specialized technical roles where the hospital system has documented difficulty sourcing qualified domestic candidates. Sponsorship is employer-initiated, so you'll need a confirmed offer before the process begins.
Which roles at University Health typically receive Green Card sponsorship?
Green Card sponsorship at University Health tends to concentrate in clinical specialties, including registered nursing, pharmacy, radiologic technology, and other allied health disciplines. Administrative and general support roles are less commonly sponsored. Positions requiring advanced degrees or specialized licensure are stronger candidates for EB-2 sponsorship, while technical and skilled clinical roles often qualify under EB-3.
How do I start the Green Card process at University Health?
The process begins with your employer, not you. Once you have an offer, University Health's HR or legal team initiates the PERM labor certification with DOL, which typically takes several months to complete. USCIS then adjudicates the immigrant petition after PERM is approved. You can use Migrate Mate to understand the full timeline and track where University Health stands in its sponsorship filings.
How long does the Green Card process take at University Health?
The timeline depends on your visa category, country of birth, and current USCIS processing times. PERM labor certification alone can take six months or more, and priority date backlogs for EB-3 applicants from high-demand countries can extend the total process significantly beyond that. EB-2 National Interest Waiver is an alternative if your specialty qualifies, as it bypasses the PERM step entirely.
How do I find Green Card jobs at University Health that include sponsorship?
Search University Health's open roles and cross-reference them against DOL labor certification data to identify positions with active sponsorship activity. During interviews, ask directly whether the role qualifies for Green Card sponsorship and what the employer's internal timeline policy is. Targeting departments with established sponsorship history, as searchable through Migrate Mate, saves time and increases your odds of a successful outcome.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at University Health?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
