For more than 35 years, Viasat has helped shape how consumers, businesses, governments and militaries around the globe communicate. We’re looking for people who think big, act fearlessly, and create an inclusive environment that drives positive impact to join our team.
We're excited to announce a dynamic opportunity for a talented Manager, Aviation & UAV Standards to join our growing team! This role offers the flexibility and convenience of fully remote work, allowing you to contribute from anywhere in the United States.
As the Manager, Aviation & UAV Standards, you will serve as Viasat’s lead subject matter expert on global aviation safety regulations and standards for the UAS, RPAS, and AAM/IAM sectors. In this pivotal role, you will guide the development of the Velaris service—a safety-grade datalink for BVLOS operations—while representing Viasat within international regulatory working groups. This position requires a deep understanding of evolving industry standards and established relationships with global aviation safety bodies to ensure our products remain compliant and competitive.
The ideal candidate is a high-standing industry thought leader and self-starter capable of navigating an undefined future landscape with minimal direction. You will act as a strategic advisor to C-suite leadership, articulating how the Velaris portfolio aligns with the shifting regulatory environment. Beyond strategy, you will mentor junior staff on satellite communications and the intricacies of standards development. Joining this enthusiastic team offers the opportunity to make a substantial, lasting impact on the global future of air transportation.
The day-to-day
- Track the development of all international regulations, standards, and guidance related to UAS / RPAS / AAM / IAM, particularly those related to required performance characteristics for the C2 link. - Represent Viasat on ICAO’s AAM- and RPAS-related panels and working groups. This includes contributing technical subject matter information, as well as occasionally presenting updates to ICAO panels and working groups, and at ICAO-sponsored industry events.
- Identify and respond to all relevant international RFIs, for example proposals for spectrum allocation for UAS / RPAS / AAM / IAM vehicles.
- Respond to international aviation safety rulemaking proposals. Advise the relevant aviation authorities on Viasat’s, and the broader C2 link connectivity service providers’, realistic capabilities.
- Speak at tradeshows and on virtual webinars / podcasts as an SME on the current UAS / RPAS / AAM / IAM regulatory environment, and on Viasat’s role in the evolving ecosystem.
- Administrative account management for relevant aviation safety memberships and standards groups.
- Support similar activities, as needed, for Viasat’s AOS business (traditional commercial aviation).
- Support AOS on coordinated legislative priorities for AAM.
- Act as a dedicated mentor to junior staff, fostering professional growth by providing guidance on industry regulations, satellite communication fundamentals, and best practices for navigating complex standards environments.
- Additional duties as assigned.
- Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field.
- Communications engineering preferred.
- Experience working with aviation standards development organizations such as FAA, RTCA, EUROCAE, and ASTM.
- Detailed knowledge of ICAO’s role, organizational structure, and guidance development processes.
- Detailed knowledge of global aviation safety rulemaking processes.
- Comfort in speaking before very large, international audiences. Both in-person and via recorded virtual presentation.

Job Roles at Viasat
How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Viasat Green Card Visa Sponsorship Jobs USA
Target engineering and technical roles
Viasat's Green Card sponsorship activity is concentrated in technical disciplines like satellite communications, RF engineering, and software development. Focusing your application on these areas puts you in the strongest position for sponsorship consideration within the Electronics and Hardware space.
Start the conversation early in the hiring process
Green Card sponsorship requires significant lead time, including PERM labor certification. Raising your sponsorship needs clearly during early interviews signals preparedness and helps Viasat's HR team assess whether the role qualifies for the PERM pathway before an offer is extended.
Understand the PERM labor certification step
Before Viasat can file your Green Card petition, the Department of Labor must certify the position through the PERM process. This involves a recruitment test showing no qualified U.S. workers are available, so your role's requirements need to be well-documented from the outset.
Use verified sponsorship data when searching for roles
Not every Viasat job listing will state whether Green Card sponsorship is available. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, helping you prioritize roles where sponsorship has actually been filed before.
Align your credentials with Viasat's specialty occupation requirements
Viasat's Green Card filings typically support roles requiring specialized degrees in electrical engineering, computer science, or related fields. Ensuring your education and experience clearly match the posted role strengthens both the PERM application and the subsequent I-140 petition.
Factor in your priority date and visa category
Your Green Card timeline at Viasat depends heavily on which EB category applies and your country of birth. Indian and Chinese nationals face longer waits in EB-2 and EB-3 backlogs, so discussing your specific situation with an immigration attorney early helps you plan realistically.

Does Viasat sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, Viasat sponsors Green Card visas for qualified employees, primarily in technical and engineering roles. The company supports the full process, including PERM labor certification and I-140 petition filing. Sponsorship is typically tied to specific positions rather than being available across all departments, so confirming eligibility early in the hiring process matters.
Which roles and departments at Viasat are most likely to receive Green Card sponsorship?
Viasat's Green Card sponsorship is most common in roles tied to its core Electronics and Hardware business, including satellite systems engineering, RF and antenna design, software engineering, and network operations. Research and development positions also feature regularly. Roles requiring highly specialized technical expertise in communications technology tend to have the strongest sponsorship case under EB-2 or EB-3 classifications.
How does the Green Card application process work at Viasat?
Viasat typically sponsors Green Cards through the PERM labor certification route, which starts with the Department of Labor recruitment test. Once PERM is certified, Viasat files an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. After approval, you wait for your priority date to become current before filing for adjustment of status or consular processing, depending on your current immigration status.
How long does the Green Card process take at Viasat?
The timeline varies considerably based on your EB category and country of birth. PERM certification alone can take anywhere from several months to over a year. After I-140 approval, nationals from countries with high demand, particularly India and China, may face multi-year waits for a visa number to become available. Starting the process as early as possible in your employment is the most effective way to manage this.
How do I find Green Card jobs at Viasat and confirm sponsorship availability?
Viasat posts open roles on its careers page, but listings do not always specify Green Card sponsorship. Migrate Mate lets you filter specifically for companies with verified Green Card sponsorship histories, so you can identify Viasat roles where sponsorship has been documented. Combining that research with a direct conversation with the Viasat recruiting team during the interview process gives you the clearest picture.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at Viasat?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
