Align your credentials to PERM requirements early
PERM labor certification requires your employer to document that no qualified U.S. worker is available for your exact role. Review the minimum requirements Wolfspeed listed when they hired you, because DOL holds them to those exact terms throughout the process.
Target roles with established sponsorship patterns
Wolfspeed's Green Card filings concentrate in semiconductor process engineering, power device design, and R&D. Roles tied to silicon carbide fabrication and compound semiconductor research carry stronger precedent for sponsorship, so position yourself in those technical tracks before initiating the conversation.
Distinguish your EB pathway before asking HR
EB-2 requires an advanced degree or exceptional ability; EB-3 covers professionals with a bachelor's degree. Wolfspeed files both, but the pathway affects your PERM timeline and priority date. Know which category your qualifications support before your first Green Card discussion with your manager or HR.
Benchmark your salary against OFLC Wage Search
PERM requires Wolfspeed to pay the prevailing wage for your occupation and location. Cross-check your current compensation against the OFLC Wage Search before filing begins. If you're below the Level II or III threshold for your SOC code, a gap could delay or complicate the process.
Search Wolfspeed's Green Card filing history on Migrate Mate
Before applying, use Migrate Mate to review Wolfspeed's Green Card filing history by role and department. Seeing which job titles and work locations have active precedent helps you target the right team and frame your candidacy around roles where sponsorship has actually happened.
Build your priority date strategy around backlog realities
If you're from India or China, EB-2 and EB-3 backlogs can stretch years beyond approval. Ask Wolfspeed's immigration counsel whether concurrent filing of your I-140 and I-485 is available for your category, and check USCIS's monthly Visa Bulletin to track your priority date progression.
Wolfspeed Green Card Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Wolfspeed sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, Wolfspeed sponsors Green Card visas for qualifying employees, primarily in engineering, semiconductor process, and research roles. Sponsorship is typically initiated after you're established in a role, not at the offer stage. Your manager and HR business partner are the right starting point to confirm eligibility and timeline for your specific position.
Which roles and departments at Wolfspeed typically receive Green Card sponsorship?
Green Card sponsorship at Wolfspeed is most common in technical functions: power device engineering, silicon carbide process engineering, R&D, and advanced manufacturing. Corporate and support roles are sponsored less frequently. If your work touches Wolfspeed's core compound semiconductor product lines, you're in the strongest position to request sponsorship.
How do I start the Green Card process at Wolfspeed?
Raise the conversation with your manager first, then engage HR. Wolfspeed works with outside immigration counsel to manage PERM filings. You'll need to confirm which EB category fits your qualifications, ensure your job duties match what was posted during recruitment, and allow time for DOL's prevailing wage determination before PERM advertising can begin.
How long does the Green Card process take at Wolfspeed?
The timeline depends on your EB category, your country of birth, and USCIS processing speeds. PERM certification alone typically takes several months, followed by I-140 adjudication. For EB-2 and EB-3 applicants from backlogged countries, the wait for an available visa number can extend significantly beyond that. Check USCIS and the monthly Visa Bulletin for current estimates.
How do I find open Green Card jobs at Wolfspeed?
Use Migrate Mate to search Wolfspeed's verified Green Card sponsorship history and filter for roles in electronics and semiconductor engineering. This shows you which job titles and locations Wolfspeed has sponsored before, so you can focus your application on positions where the sponsorship pathway is already established rather than starting from scratch.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at Wolfspeed?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
