Align your degree to AMD's SOC codes
AMD's H-1B petitions tie your role to a specific Standard Occupational Classification code. Pull the O*NET profile for your target job title to confirm the minimum degree field required, then verify your credentials match before applying.
Target AMD's silicon and GPU teams
AMD's heaviest H-1B sponsorship activity clusters in chip architecture, GPU compute, and AI accelerator engineering. Applying to roles in these divisions puts you in front of hiring managers who already have an established H-1B filing workflow.
Get your transcripts evaluated before offers
AMD's immigration team needs to confirm your degree satisfies specialty occupation requirements. If you hold a non-U.S. degree, arrange a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved service before your offer stage to avoid delays in the I-129 petition.
Register in March, not after the lottery
USCIS opens H-1B registration each March for the annual cap. If you're not already working at AMD in a cap-exempt capacity, your petition enters the lottery. Missing the registration window means waiting a full year, so confirm your start date lets you register in time.
Search AMD's LCA filings on Migrate Mate
Before your interview, pull AMD's Labor Condition Application history on Migrate Mate to see which job titles and work locations they've filed for. This tells you the prevailing wage floor for your role and which AMD offices have the most active H-1B sponsorship.
Clarify amendment obligations for AMD relocations
AMD has engineering sites across Austin, San Jose, Santa Clara, and Markham. If your role shifts to a different worksite after your petition is approved, AMD must file an H-1B amendment with USCIS. Ask your recruiter whether a relocation is planned before you accept.
AMD H-1B Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does AMD sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, AMD sponsors H-1B visas. The company is a consistent H-1B sponsor in the electronics and semiconductor industry, filing petitions primarily for engineering, hardware design, software development, and AI research roles. AMD has an established immigration program, meaning their HR and legal teams are familiar with the full petition process.
Which AMD roles and departments typically receive H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship at AMD concentrates in technical roles requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field. GPU and CPU architecture, AI and machine learning engineering, software development, silicon design, and firmware engineering are the departments where H-1B filings are most common. Business and non-technical roles sponsor far less frequently.
How does the H-1B application process work at AMD?
AMD's immigration team works with outside counsel to file the Labor Condition Application with DOL, then submits the I-129 petition to USCIS after LCA certification. You'll need to provide educational credentials, employment documents, and a detailed job description. AMD typically handles filing costs, but confirm scope during your offer negotiation.
How long does the H-1B process take at AMD?
Standard USCIS processing runs several months after the April 1 filing date, with an October 1 employment start for cap-subject cases. AMD can use premium processing to get a decision in a few weeks. If you're transferring from another H-1B employer, AMD can file a cap-exempt transfer and you can start sooner, often within weeks.
How do I find out which AMD roles come with H-1B sponsorship?
Job postings don't always state H-1B sponsorship eligibility clearly. Use Migrate Mate to review AMD's Labor Condition Application filing history by job title and office location. This shows you which roles AMD has actively sponsored and what prevailing wage levels apply, so you can prioritize your applications and walk into interviews prepared.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs at AMD?
H-1B employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is determined when they file the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, and ensures international hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
