Align your credentials with specialty occupation standards
Augsburg's H-1B petitions for faculty and professional roles must satisfy USCIS specialty occupation requirements. Pull the O*NET profile for your target role and confirm your degree field directly matches the listed education requirements before applying.
Target departments with recurring international hiring
Academic units in sciences, social work, and professional programs at Augsburg have historically filed H-1B petitions for faculty and clinical staff. Focus your applications on departments where the credential requirements are tightly defined and degree-field matching is straightforward.
Confirm Augsburg's E-Verify enrollment before accepting an offer
Universities sponsoring H-1B visas are required to be E-Verify participants for certain hiring categories. Confirm Augsburg's current enrollment status directly with HR during the offer stage so you understand the onboarding verification process that runs alongside your petition.
Use Migrate Mate to check Augsburg's LCA filing history
Before your first interview, use Migrate Mate to review Augsburg University's Labor Condition Application filing history by role and department. This shows you which job titles the university has sponsored, so you can tailor your application to proven sponsorship pathways.
Negotiate your start date around H-1B cap deadlines
If you're not already in H-1B status, Augsburg must file your cap-subject petition during USCIS's April filing window for an October 1 start date. Build this timeline into your offer negotiation so your employment date is realistic and avoids a gap in work authorization.
Request the prevailing wage tier Augsburg will use
Augsburg must certify your offered salary meets or exceeds the DOL prevailing wage for your role and location. Before signing, ask HR which wage level they're filing under and cross-check it against the OFLC Wage Search to confirm the figure is appropriate for your experience.
Augsburg University H-1B Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Augsburg University sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Augsburg University does sponsor H-1B visas. Sponsorship is concentrated in faculty, academic staff, and specialized professional roles where the position requires a specific degree field. Not every open position qualifies, so confirm with Augsburg's HR or international employment office early in the process that your target role is eligible for H-1B sponsorship.
Which roles and departments at Augsburg University typically receive H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship at Augsburg is most common for tenure-track and visiting faculty positions, clinical instructors, and professional staff roles in areas like social work, health sciences, and business. Roles that carry clearly defined degree requirements tied to a specific academic field are the strongest candidates for sponsorship approval under USCIS specialty occupation standards.
How do I navigate the H-1B application process at Augsburg University?
Augsburg's HR or designated international employment office manages the H-1B filing process with an outside immigration attorney. After receiving a job offer, you'll provide supporting credentials and degree documentation. The university then files the Labor Condition Application with DOL and submits the I-129 petition to USCIS. Staying in close contact with HR throughout ensures no documentation gaps delay your petition.
How long does H-1B sponsorship take at Augsburg University?
Standard USCIS processing for an H-1B petition can run several months. If your petition is cap-subject, Augsburg must file in April for an October 1 start date, meaning your effective employment date is set by the fiscal year cycle. Premium processing is available through USCIS for faster adjudication and is sometimes used for time-sensitive faculty or clinical hires.
How do I strengthen my H-1B application for a role at Augsburg University?
Start by researching which departments at Augsburg have sponsored H-1B roles before. Migrate Mate's employer search lets you view Augsburg's Labor Condition Application history by occupation, giving you a clearer picture of where sponsorship is most established. Pair that research with strong degree-field alignment and a letter from the department confirming the specialized nature of the role.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs at Augsburg University?
H-1B employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is determined when they file the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, and ensures international hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
