We’re not just building better tech. We’re rewriting how data moves and what the world can do with it. With Confluent, data doesn’t sit still. Our platform puts information in motion, streaming in near real-time so companies can react faster, build smarter, and deliver experiences as dynamic as the world around them.
It takes a certain kind of person to join this team. Those who ask hard questions, give honest feedback, and show up for each other. No egos, no solo acts. Just smart, curious humans pushing toward something bigger, together.
One Confluent. One Team. One Data Streaming Platform.
About the Role:
The Flink Platform team is at the forefront of building a robust, serverless control plane for Confluent’s fully managed Flink offering. As the Senior Engineering Manager, you will lead a high-impact team of approximately 10 engineers—including two Staff-level individual contributors—responsible for the "brain" of our streaming service.
You will own the customer-facing Flink REST API and Gateway, the Kubernetes operators that orchestrate Flink job lifecycles (submission, scaling, recovery), and the declarative API server that backs them – the stack every Flink customer interaction flows through. Your team is responsible for multi-tenant isolation, end-to-end reliability, and the integration points between Confluent's global control plane and the regional Flink data plane.
This is a critical leadership role where you will balance deep technical strategy–driving architectural excellence and reliability–with a strong focus on people leadership, specifically growing a talented group of senior engineers into the next generation of Staff-level leaders.
What You Will Do:
- Vision & Execution: Own the overall roadmap and execution for the Flink Control Plane. Define the strategy for job orchestration (submission, scaling, recovery) and serverless resource management.
- Architectural Leadership: Lead the ongoing migration of the control plane onto Confluent's latest platform foundations and drive major component refactors in service of reliability, security, and scale. You will "see around corners" – making the right bets on architecture today so the platform stays resilient as Flink usage grows by orders of magnitude.
- Engineering Excellence: Work with engineering teams and product management on critical aspects of product definition, architectural design, and delivery. Influence the overall domain health and operational hygiene for the platform.
- Scale & Performance: Drive the control plane's evolution to support 10x growth in compute pools, statements, and tenants per region. Lead initiatives that eliminate hotspots in the metadata and orchestration layers so customer-facing operations remain fast and predictable under load.
- People Development: Manage and coach a diverse team. Your primary mission is to mentor junior and mid-level developers, providing them with the architectural context and leadership skills to reach Staff levels.
- Collaboration: Work closely with engineering leadership and key stakeholders across Confluent Cloud to drive cross-team efforts to solve complex distributed system challenges at scale – strong cross-org partnership is core to the role.
- Operational Integrity: Lead the team in maintaining high code quality, comprehensive test coverage, and a robust on-call rotation, ensuring the control plane meets enterprise-grade reliability standards.
What You Will Bring:
- Experience: 10+ years in software development with at least 5+ years in engineering management, specifically leading teams focused on cloud-native infrastructure or managed services.
- Technical Depth: Deep knowledge of distributed systems orchestration (Kubernetes operators, controller patterns, declarative API servers) and multi-tenant resource isolation. Experience scaling control planes for managed cloud services (AWS, GCP, Azure, Elastic, Snowflake, Databricks, etc.) is highly preferred. Direct Flink experience is not required.
- Leadership Track Record: A proven track record of hiring while ensuring a high bar, keeping engineers motivated through complex technical transitions, and managing performance effectively.
- Focus on Reliability: A mindset geared toward "Operational Excellence." You understand how to build and maintain resilient, enduring technical foundations that serve as a central component for other teams to build upon.
- Communication: Exceptional ability to influence peers and upper management using data-driven, collaborative techniques and clear written/verbal communication.

Target engineering and product roles first
Confluent's H-1B sponsorship is strongest in software engineering, platform infrastructure, and product development. These departments align with its core Apache Kafka business and represent the most consistent source of H-1B-sponsored positions across hiring cycles.
Understand Confluent's two-part structure
Confluent operates both a cloud-managed service and an open-source platform. Knowing which product line a role sits under helps you tailor your application and signals to hiring managers that you understand where the team's technical priorities actually live.
Apply early in the calendar year
H-1B petitions are tied to the federal cap lottery that opens in March. Confluent needs time to evaluate candidates, prepare the LCA, and file before the deadline. Starting your job search in January or February gives you the best chance of being included.
Confirm sponsorship before advancing in the process
Not every open role at Confluent is approved for H-1B sponsorship. When you find a listing that interests you, verify sponsorship eligibility early. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history before investing time in an application.
Highlight distributed systems and cloud experience
Confluent's technology stack centers on Kafka, event streaming, and cloud-native architecture. Candidates whose resumes clearly demonstrate depth in these areas are better positioned to clear technical screens and reach the stage where sponsorship conversations happen.
Be direct about your visa status in recruiter conversations
Confluent's recruiting team handles H-1B paperwork regularly, but clarity upfront avoids wasted time. State your current status, your work authorization expiry, and whether you need cap-subject sponsorship so the team can route you to the right hiring manager quickly.
Confluent H-1B Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Confluent sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Confluent sponsors H-1B visas. The company has an established record of sponsoring international workers across its engineering, cloud, and technical functions. Sponsorship is handled through standard cap-subject petitions filed with USCIS, and Confluent's size and technical hiring volume make it a genuine sponsor rather than an occasional one.
Which roles and departments at Confluent typically receive H-1B sponsorship?
Software engineering, site reliability engineering, product management, and data infrastructure roles are the most common H-1B-sponsored positions at Confluent. Technical go-to-market roles such as solutions architects and technical account managers have also been sponsored. Corporate and administrative functions are sponsored less frequently and depend heavily on the specific headcount plan for that team.
How do I navigate the H-1B application process at Confluent?
Once Confluent extends an offer to an H-1B candidate, the company works with its immigration counsel to file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor, followed by the H-1B petition with USCIS. Candidates are not responsible for filing directly but should respond promptly to any documentation requests from Confluent's legal team to keep the process on track.
How long does H-1B sponsorship take at Confluent?
For cap-subject H-1B petitions, the process is tied to the federal lottery cycle. Registration typically opens in March, with work authorization starting no earlier than October 1 of the same year if selected. Standard USCIS processing can take several months after the lottery. Premium processing is available for an additional fee and reduces adjudication to a shorter window, though Confluent's policy on covering that cost varies by role.
How do I find H-1B jobs at Confluent as an international applicant?
Searching specifically for roles that are open to H-1B sponsorship is important because not every listing at Confluent will qualify. Migrate Mate aggregates roles from verified H-1B sponsors, letting you filter by company and see which positions have a real sponsorship history attached. From there, applying early in the hiring cycle and being transparent about your visa status gives you the best chance of moving forward.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs at Confluent?
H-1B employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is determined when they file the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, and ensures international hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
