Job Roles at Fairfax County Public Schools
How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Fairfax County Public Schools H-1B Visa Sponsorship Jobs USA
Target high-demand subject areas
FCPS is most likely to sponsor H-1B visas for teachers in shortage areas like special education, mathematics, science, and world languages. Focusing your application on these subjects significantly improves your chances of sponsorship consideration.
Confirm your role qualifies as a specialty occupation
H-1B eligibility requires your position to qualify as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field. Teaching roles with a required subject-area degree typically meet this standard, but confirm this with FCPS HR directly.
Use verified sponsorship data when job searching
Not every FCPS posting will mention H-1B sponsorship explicitly. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, helping you identify open FCPS roles where sponsorship is genuinely available.
Prepare your credentials for evaluation early
International educators applying to FCPS for H-1B roles should have foreign academic credentials evaluated by a NACES-approved agency. FCPS HR and immigration counsel will need verified equivalency documentation during the petition preparation process.
Engage with FCPS HR before accepting an offer
Raise your H-1B sponsorship need during the offer stage, not after signing. FCPS has HR staff familiar with the process, and early disclosure allows the district to plan petition filing with its immigration counsel without delays.

Does Fairfax County Public Schools sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Fairfax County Public Schools sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying roles. As a large public school district, FCPS has experience navigating the H-1B process, particularly for specialty occupation positions in education. Sponsorship is most common in high-need teaching areas and select administrative or specialist roles that require a specific degree field.
Which roles at Fairfax County Public Schools typically receive H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship at FCPS is most common for classroom teachers in shortage subject areas such as special education, mathematics, science, and world languages. Specialist and coordinator roles that require a degree in a specific discipline may also qualify. General support or paraprofessional roles typically do not meet the specialty occupation threshold required for H-1B.
How do I apply for a job at Fairfax County Public Schools with H-1B sponsorship?
Apply through the FCPS careers portal and clearly indicate your need for H-1B sponsorship during the process. Once an offer is extended, FCPS HR works with immigration counsel to prepare your I-129 petition. You can use Migrate Mate to identify open FCPS positions where sponsorship has been documented, giving you a stronger starting point before applying.
How do I know what timeline to expect for H-1B sponsorship at Fairfax County Public Schools?
School districts operate on academic year calendars, so FCPS typically targets the annual H-1B cap filing window in March for an October 1 start. If you're already in a qualifying status, a cap-exempt or transfer petition may follow a different timeline. Expect the full process from offer to approval to take several months, and plan accordingly with FCPS HR.
What should I know before pursuing H-1B sponsorship at a public school district like Fairfax County Public Schools?
Public school districts are cap-subject H-1B employers, meaning your petition enters the annual lottery unless you're transferring from another H-1B employer. FCPS will cover required filing fees, but confirm what is included before accepting an offer. Your degree must directly relate to the subject you'll be teaching, and foreign credentials typically need formal evaluation before the petition can proceed.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs at Fairfax County Public Schools?
H-1B employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is determined when they file the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, and ensures international hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
