Align your degree to Latham's specialty occupation roles
Latham & Watkins sponsors H-1B for roles requiring a directly related bachelor's degree or higher. For business services and tech roles, confirm your degree field maps to the O*NET occupation profile for your target position before applying, not after receiving an offer.
Target business services teams over associate roles
Latham's H-1B sponsorship activity is concentrated in non-attorney professional roles, including financial analysts, IT specialists, and marketing professionals. Attorney roles involve bar admission complexity that can complicate H-1B timing, so business services tracks are the more straightforward sponsorship path at most large law firms.
Verify your prevailing wage tier before salary negotiations
Latham must file a Labor Condition Application certifying your wage meets prevailing wage levels for your role and office location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check the applicable wage level before your offer stage so you negotiate with accurate DOL wage data already in hand.
Search Latham's verified H-1B filing history on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate pulls DOL Labor Condition Application data so you can see which roles and office locations Latham & Watkins has filed H-1B petitions for. Use that history to target departments that have a proven sponsorship track record rather than applying broadly across the firm.
Prepare your OPT-to-H-1B transition timeline early
If you're on F-1 OPT, Latham's HR team needs to file your H-1B petition by April 1 for the October 1 cap-subject start date. Start the internal approval process at least six months before your OPT expiration to give Latham sufficient time to prepare the LCA and I-129 filing.
Confirm cap-exempt eligibility if you hold a prior H-1B
If you've previously been counted against the H-1B cap and are transferring to Latham within three years of that approval, your petition may be cap-exempt and file immediately. Confirm this with Latham's immigration counsel at offer stage, since cap-exempt transfers bypass the annual lottery entirely.
Latham & Watkins LLP H-1B Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Latham & Watkins LLP sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Latham & Watkins LLP sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying international professionals across its U.S. offices. Sponsorship is available for both legal support and business services roles that meet the specialty occupation requirement. The firm works with immigration counsel to handle LCA filings with DOL and I-129 petitions with USCIS on behalf of sponsored employees.
Which roles at Latham & Watkins LLP typically receive H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship at Latham & Watkins is most commonly associated with non-attorney professional roles, including financial analysts, technology specialists, knowledge management professionals, and business development staff. These positions fit the specialty occupation definition because they require a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. Attorney roles involve separate bar admission considerations that can affect H-1B petition timing.
How do I find out if Latham & Watkins LLP has filed H-1B petitions for roles like mine?
Migrate Mate surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application data by employer, role, and office location, so you can see the categories of positions Latham & Watkins has historically sponsored. Reviewing that filing history before applying helps you identify which practice groups and business services teams have an established H-1B sponsorship track record at the firm.
How does the H-1B application process work at Latham & Watkins LLP?
Once you receive an offer, Latham's immigration counsel files a Labor Condition Application with DOL to certify your offered wage meets prevailing wage requirements. After LCA certification, which USCIS requires before the petition is submitted, the firm files Form I-129 either in the annual cap lottery or as a cap-exempt transfer. Premium processing is available if your start date requires faster adjudication.
How long does H-1B sponsorship take at Latham & Watkins LLP?
For cap-subject petitions, the timeline is driven by the annual lottery cycle: registration opens in March, and approved petitions have an October 1 start date. Standard USCIS adjudication after filing runs several months, though Latham can request premium processing for a faster decision. Cap-exempt transfers for candidates with prior H-1B approvals can be filed and adjudicated at any point in the year.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs at Latham & Watkins LLP?
H-1B employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is determined when they file the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, and ensures international hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
