Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
NYU Langone evaluates H-1B eligibility based on whether your role requires a specific bachelor's degree or higher. Pull the O*NET occupation profile for your target role and confirm the listed education requirements match your degree field before applying.
Target departments with recurring H-1B activity
Clinical research, biomedical sciences, nursing informatics, and health technology roles at NYU Langone see consistent H-1B sponsorship. Focus your application on units where specialized international expertise is built into the hiring model, not one-off openings.
Verify your prevailing wage tier before negotiating
NYU Langone's H-1B filings are subject to DOL prevailing wage requirements. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the wage level for your job title and New York City location before salary discussions so you understand the floor USCIS will scrutinize.
Use Migrate Mate to surface NYU Langone's LCA filing history
Before your interview, search Migrate Mate to review NYU Langone's Labor Condition Application filings by role and department. That data shows which job titles have cleared DOL certification recently, giving you concrete evidence to reference during sponsorship conversations with HR.
Ask HR to confirm I-129 timing before accepting an offer
NYU Langone files the I-129 petition on your behalf, but cap-subject H-1B slots only open on April 1 each year. If you're not cap-exempt, confirm whether your start date aligns with the next fiscal year cycle so there's no gap in your authorization.
Highlight licensure and credentialing documents early
For clinical roles, NYU Langone's HR and credentialing teams run parallel tracks. Submit your professional license, degree equivalency evaluation, and any ECFMG or board certification documents before the I-129 is filed to avoid delays from the credentialing review running longer than the petition timeline.
NYU Langone Health H-1B Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does NYU Langone Health sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, NYU Langone Health sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying specialty occupation roles. Sponsorship is most active in clinical, research, and health technology departments where roles require a specific bachelor's degree or higher. NYU Langone acts as the petitioning employer and manages the I-129 filing process through its HR and legal teams.
Which roles and departments at NYU Langone Health typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Roles in clinical research coordination, biomedical and translational science, health informatics, physician assistant programs, and specialized nursing often qualify. Administrative and operational roles can qualify too if the position genuinely requires a degree in a specific field. General support roles without a degree requirement typically don't meet USCIS specialty occupation standards.
How do I start the H-1B sponsorship process at NYU Langone Health?
Sponsorship begins after NYU Langone extends a job offer. Their HR team initiates the Labor Condition Application with the DOL, then files the I-129 petition with USCIS. You can't self-petition for an H-1B, so the entire process runs through NYU Langone's internal immigration team or their outside counsel. Migrate Mate can help you prepare for the offer stage by showing which roles have active LCA history.
How long does the H-1B process take at NYU Langone Health?
For cap-subject applicants, the process spans roughly six to nine months from registration through the April 1 filing window to an October 1 start date. NYU Langone can request USCIS premium processing to reduce adjudication time to around three business days, though the DOL LCA certification step still takes up to seven business days and runs first.
How do I strengthen my H-1B application when targeting NYU Langone Health?
Confirm your degree field directly matches the job's specialty occupation requirements and have a credentials evaluation ready if your degree is from outside the U.S. For clinical roles, resolve all licensure and credentialing requirements before the I-129 is filed. USCIS scrutinizes any gap between the stated degree requirement and what NYU Langone listed on the LCA, so consistency across all documents matters.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs at NYU Langone Health?
H-1B employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is determined when they file the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, and ensures international hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
