Align your HR credentials with U.S. standards
SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification signals fluency in U.S. employment law and HR practice. HP's HR roles frequently require familiarity with federal compliance frameworks, so U.S.-recognized credentials strengthen your application before you ever reach the interview stage.
Target HP's HR business partner openings
HP structures much of its HR function around HRBPs embedded in business units like its PC and print divisions. These roles sit closer to the business than generalist postings and tend to have clearer specialty occupation documentation, which supports H-1B petition strength.
Confirm your role qualifies as a specialty occupation
Not every HR title clears USCIS's specialty occupation bar. Roles requiring a degree in human resources, organizational psychology, or a related field are stronger candidates. Compensation analytics, HR technology, and workforce planning positions at HP typically meet this threshold more consistently than broad generalist titles.
Ask about E-3 eligibility before accepting an offer
If you're an Australian citizen, the E-3 visa bypasses the H-1B lottery entirely. HP sponsors E-3 visas for HR roles, so raise this with the recruiter during offer negotiations to avoid being defaulted into an H-1B cap-subject petition unnecessarily.
Build PERM timeline expectations into your plan
If HP sponsors EB-2 or EB-3 for your HR role, the PERM labor certification process with DOL typically runs six months to over a year before your I-140 is even filed. Factor this into career planning conversations with HP's immigration team from your first year of employment.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsored HR openings at HP
HP's sponsored HR roles don't always surface on general job boards. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for HP Human Resources positions that include visa sponsorship, so you're applying to roles where the pathway is already confirmed rather than guessing from a job description.

Find Human Resources at HP JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does HP sponsor H-1B visas for Human Resources roles?
Yes, HP sponsors H-1B visas for Human Resources positions, including HR business partner, compensation, and workforce analytics roles. The key requirement is that the role qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards, meaning it must require a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field like human resources, organizational psychology, or a related discipline. Roles with a broader or generalist scope can face more scrutiny during the petition process.
How do I apply for Human Resources jobs at HP?
Apply through HP's careers portal and filter by function and location. Roles in HR business partnering, talent acquisition, and people analytics appear regularly across HP's U.S. offices in Houston, Fort Collins, and Boise. You can also use Migrate Mate to browse HP's open Human Resources positions that include visa sponsorship, which filters out roles where international candidates aren't supported before you invest time in an application.
Which visa types does HP use for Human Resources professionals?
HP sponsors H-1B, E-3, and Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for qualifying Human Resources roles. Australian citizens are eligible for the E-3, which avoids the H-1B lottery and has a faster processing timeline. For longer-term permanent residence, HP supports PERM-based Green Card sponsorship through the EB-2 or EB-3 categories depending on the role's requirements and the candidate's qualifications.
What qualifications does HP expect for sponsored Human Resources roles?
HP's sponsored HR roles generally require a bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, organizational psychology, or a closely related field. For senior or specialized roles in compensation, HR analytics, or talent strategy, a master's degree or several years of progressive HR experience in a technology or hardware environment is common. SHRM certification isn't always listed as required, but it consistently strengthens your candidacy and supports specialty occupation documentation for visa purposes.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for an HR role at HP?
For an H-1B, HP typically files your petition on April 1 for an October 1 start date, meaning there's a six-month gap between the lottery and when you can begin working. The E-3 for Australian citizens moves faster, with consular processing often completing within four to eight weeks. Green Card sponsorship through PERM adds significantly more time, as DOL's labor certification alone can take six months to over a year before the I-140 stage begins.
