Align your credentials to KPMG's practice areas
KPMG's Legal Associates work across tax law, regulatory compliance, and corporate advisory. Frame your law degree and any bar admission around these specializations in your application materials, since generalist legal credentials get less traction than practice-specific ones.
Confirm your visa category before applying
KPMG sponsors both H-1B and E-3 visas for Legal Associates. If you're Australian, the E-3 has no lottery and faster timelines. Knowing which category fits your nationality lets you have a sharper conversation with recruiters from the start.
Target KPMG's structured campus recruiting cycle
KPMG hires Legal Associates through defined recruiting windows, often tied to law school timelines. Missing the fall recruiting cycle at your school means waiting a full year, so identify KPMG's on-campus presence early and engage through your law school's career office.
Prepare for a multi-stage immigration process
For H-1B sponsorship, USCIS registration opens each March for an October 1 start date. If you're on OPT, confirm your end date allows enough runway to clear the lottery, petition filing, and approval before your work authorization lapses.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open Legal Associate roles
KPMG posts Legal Associate openings across multiple offices and practice groups at different times. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for KPMG roles that include visa sponsorship, so you're not manually tracking dozens of postings across regions.
Get your bar admission timeline right before your offer
Many KPMG Legal Associate roles require bar admission or active pursuit of it. If you're awaiting results, clarify with the hiring team how your pending admission affects your start date and whether the firm's immigration filing can proceed in parallel.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does KPMG sponsor H-1B visas for Legal Associates?
Yes, KPMG sponsors H-1B visas for Legal Associates. The process follows the standard USCIS H-1B cap timeline, with registration in March and an October 1 start date if selected. KPMG typically works with outside immigration counsel to manage the petition, so you'll coordinate closely with both HR and that firm once an offer is extended.
How do I apply for Legal Associate jobs at KPMG?
Applications go through KPMG's careers portal, but most Legal Associate hiring flows through law school recruiting programs. Engaging your law school's career office to connect with KPMG's campus team is often more effective than applying cold. You can also browse current openings filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate before submitting through the official portal.
Which visa types does KPMG commonly use for Legal Associate roles?
KPMG sponsors H-1B visas for most nationalities and E-3 visas for Australian citizens. For Legal Associates pursuing permanent residence, KPMG has a track record with EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways, which typically require PERM labor certification filed through DOL. Which path applies depends on your nationality, degree level, and how long you've been with the firm.
What qualifications does KPMG expect for Legal Associate roles?
Most Legal Associate roles at KPMG require a JD from an accredited law school, with bar admission or active candidacy in the relevant state. Practice-area experience in tax law, regulatory compliance, or corporate transactions is valued given how KPMG's legal function is structured. Strong academic credentials matter, but demonstrated experience in a specific practice area often carries more weight in hiring decisions.
How do I time my application around visa sponsorship requirements?
If you're relying on H-1B sponsorship, you need an offer in hand well before the March USCIS registration window. OPT or STEM OPT can bridge the gap if your graduation date doesn't align with October 1. For the E-3, timing is more flexible since there's no cap or lottery, but you still need a certified LCA from DOL before your consular appointment or status change.
