Align your credentials with specialty occupation standards
USCIS requires Instructor roles to qualify as specialty occupations, meaning your degree must directly relate to the subject you'll teach. A master's or doctorate in your teaching field strengthens that connection significantly before you apply.
Target departments with recurring Instructor openings
Manhattan University consistently posts Instructor roles across engineering, education, and science departments. Focusing your outreach on high-turnover departments increases the likelihood of finding a hiring manager already familiar with sponsorship workflows.
Clarify sponsorship scope before accepting an offer
Confirm whether the university will cover H-1B filing fees and whether premium processing is available. Academic employers handle this differently, and knowing their policy before signing prevents delays once the DOL Labor Condition Application process begins.
Use OPT or CPT strategically while pursuing H-1B sponsorship
If you're on F-1 status, starting as an Instructor under OPT gives the university time to evaluate your fit before committing to H-1B sponsorship. The 60-day grace period after OPT expiration leaves little margin, so initiate H-1B conversations early.
Verify TN eligibility if you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship
TN status covers certain teaching roles and processes faster than H-1B without a lottery. Confirm that your specific Instructor title and duties align with the TN occupation categories before proposing this pathway to Manhattan University's HR team.
Find Instructor openings filtered by sponsorship on Migrate Mate
Searching broadly misses roles where sponsorship is already confirmed. Use Migrate Mate to filter Instructor positions at Manhattan University by visa type, so you're only applying where your authorization pathway is a known fit.

Find Instructor at Manhattan University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Manhattan University sponsor H-1B visas for Instructors?
Yes, Manhattan University sponsors H-1B visas for Instructor roles. As a higher education institution, the university qualifies as a cap-exempt H-1B employer, which means petitions can be filed at any time of year without entering the annual lottery. This makes the H-1B pathway more accessible for academic hires than it would be at a for-profit employer.
How do I apply for Instructor jobs at Manhattan University?
Applications go through Manhattan University's careers portal, where Instructor postings list department-specific requirements. Tailor your materials to the academic discipline and include any teaching evaluations or course syllabi if requested. You can also browse current Instructor openings filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate before applying directly through the university.
Which visa types does Manhattan University use for Instructor roles?
Manhattan University sponsors H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT for Instructor positions. H-1B is the most common long-term pathway. TN is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying teaching categories. F-1 OPT and CPT apply to recent graduates completing degree requirements or gaining practical experience in their academic field.
What qualifications does Manhattan University expect for Instructor positions?
Most Instructor roles require at minimum a master's degree in the relevant academic discipline, though a doctorate strengthens candidacy for certain departments. Prior teaching experience at the college level, a record of curriculum development, and subject-matter expertise aligned with the department's course offerings are all factors that influence hiring decisions for sponsored roles.
How do I plan the timeline for H-1B sponsorship at a university like Manhattan?
Because Manhattan University is cap-exempt, H-1B petitions can be filed year-round, which removes the April lottery constraint that affects most private-sector jobs. Still, factor in two to three months for the Labor Condition Application through DOL and USCIS adjudication time. Starting conversations with the hiring department well before your current status expires gives the university's HR team enough runway to file without premium processing.
