Align your HR credentials to U.S. standards
SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification signals immediate credibility to a U.S. retail HR team. If your credentials are from outside the U.S., get a formal equivalency evaluation before applying so hiring managers don't have to guess.
Target Michaels roles with field HR scope
Michaels staffs HR Business Partners who support store operations across regions, not just corporate generalists. Roles with multi-site or field responsibility are more likely to justify sponsorship than narrowly scoped administrative positions.
Search verified sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Filter Human Resources openings at Michaels Stores by visa type on Migrate Mate to find roles where sponsorship has already been approved for your category, cutting out the guesswork before you apply.
Raise sponsorship early in screening calls
Retail HR hiring cycles move fast. Clarify your visa requirement during the initial recruiter screen rather than after a panel interview, so the HR team can loop in their immigration counsel before an offer is extended.
Understand how PERM affects your HR timeline
If you're pursuing a Green Card through employment, PERM requires Michaels to run a supervised recruitment process through DOL. This can take 12 to 18 months, so factor that into conversations about long-term sponsorship before signing an offer.
Use OPT and CPT strategically for retail HR entry
F-1 students on OPT have up to 12 months of work authorization, extendable to 36 months for STEM-adjacent HR analytics roles. Starting at Michaels on OPT and demonstrating impact in a high-turnover retail environment strengthens any future H-1B sponsorship case.

Find Human Resources at Michaels Stores JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Michaels Stores sponsor H-1B visas for Human Resources?
Yes, Michaels Stores has sponsored H-1B visas for Human Resources roles. Sponsorship is more common for specialized positions such as HR Business Partners, talent acquisition leads, and compensation analysts than for entry-level generalist roles. Your best approach is to apply for roles where your specialization clearly justifies the petition, and to confirm sponsorship availability directly with the recruiter during the initial screen.
How do I apply for Human Resources jobs at Michaels Stores?
Applications go through Michaels Stores' careers portal. For visa-sponsored roles specifically, Migrate Mate lists verified Human Resources openings at Michaels filtered by visa type, so you can identify which positions align with your sponsorship needs before applying. Tailor your resume to reflect U.S. retail HR experience or its equivalent, and be ready to discuss your visa status in the first recruiter conversation.
Which visa types does Michaels Stores commonly use for Human Resources roles?
Michaels Stores has used H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, EB-2, and EB-3 visas for Human Resources positions. TN is an efficient option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying HR occupations. F-1 OPT and CPT work well for recent graduates entering HR analyst or coordinator roles. H-1B is the most common path for longer-term professional sponsorship, while EB-2 and EB-3 support permanent residence for established HR professionals.
What qualifications does Michaels Stores expect for sponsored Human Resources roles?
For H-1B eligibility, the role must qualify as a specialty occupation, which typically means a bachelor's degree or higher in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a closely related field is required, not just preferred. Michaels HR roles that attract sponsorship generally involve strategic scope, such as supporting multi-store regions, leading talent programs, or managing compensation. Practical retail industry experience and a U.S.-recognized HR certification like SHRM strengthens your application considerably.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Human Resources role at Michaels Stores?
Timeline depends on visa type. H-1B standard processing through USCIS runs three to five months after the April 1 filing date, with premium processing available for a faster 15-business-day adjudication. TN status for Canadians can be obtained at the border on the same day. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship through DOL typically adds 12 to 18 months before USCIS filing even begins. Clarify the pathway with Michaels' immigration counsel once an offer is on the table.
