Verify your OT license transfers across states
Otterbein operates in Ohio, so confirm your occupational therapy license is valid or transferable there before applying. The NBCOT certification is federally recognized, but state licensure through the Ohio OT, PT, and AT Board is a separate requirement employers check before extending offers.
Target roles tied to academic programs
University OT departments often hire to support fieldwork education and clinical instruction, not just direct patient care. Roles linked to Otterbein's OT program carry stronger sponsorship motivation because faculty and clinical educator positions are harder to fill with local candidates alone.
Confirm H-1B eligibility before your interview
OT positions at universities typically qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards because the role requires a master's degree in occupational therapy. Verify your degree level meets that threshold before the offer stage so you can discuss sponsorship without delays once an offer comes.
Use Migrate Mate to find open OT roles
Filtering for OT positions at sponsoring universities by visa type saves significant research time. Migrate Mate lets you search Otterbein's current openings by visa category, so you can apply directly to roles where sponsorship is already on the table.
Prepare your credentials for USCIS specialty occupation review
Gather official transcripts, your NBCOT certificate, and any state licensure documents before the petition stage. For OT roles, USCIS may request evidence that your specific degree field directly relates to the job duties, so a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved service strengthens your I-129 package.

Find OT at Otterbein University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Otterbein University sponsor H-1B visas for OTs?
Yes, Otterbein University has sponsored H-1B visas for occupational therapy roles. As a university employer, Otterbein is generally cap-exempt for H-1B purposes, which means it can file petitions at any point in the year rather than waiting for the annual April lottery window. This makes the timeline more flexible for both parties compared to a standard cap-subject employer.
How do I apply for OT jobs at Otterbein University?
Open OT positions at Otterbein University are posted on the university's official careers portal. You can also browse visa-sponsorship-verified openings through Migrate Mate, which filters Otterbein's current OT listings by visa type so you can confirm sponsorship eligibility before you apply. When submitting your application, include your NBCOT certification status and Ohio licensure details prominently in your materials.
Which visa types does Otterbein University commonly use for OT roles?
Otterbein University has used H-1B, J-1, TN, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT visas for occupational therapy positions. H-1B is the most common long-term option for licensed OTs. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals whose OT credentials meet USMCA requirements. J-1 works well for clinical exchange or research-focused roles, and OPT or CPT can bridge recent graduates into full-time positions.
What qualifications does Otterbein University expect for OT positions?
Most OT roles at Otterbein require at minimum a master's degree in occupational therapy from an ACOTE-accredited program, NBCOT certification, and an active Ohio state OT license. Positions tied to the university's academic programs may also expect clinical fieldwork supervision experience or prior teaching involvement. International applicants should have their foreign credentials evaluated by a NACES-approved service if their degree was earned outside the United States.
How do I time my application around the H-1B process at Otterbein?
Because Otterbein is a university, it qualifies as a cap-exempt H-1B employer, meaning USCIS accepts petitions year-round rather than only during the April cap season. This removes the lottery risk entirely. Factor in roughly two to four months for USCIS adjudication after filing unless premium processing is requested, and plan your offer and credentialing steps accordingly so your Ohio license is active before the petition is submitted.
