INTRODUCTION
Pickle Robot is seeking a passionate and experienced Software Engineering Manager, Human-Robot Interaction, to lead the team building the operator-facing software that puts our robots to work on the loading dock. This leader will own the applications, integrations, and data infrastructure that enable people to operate, monitor, and work alongside Pickle’s robots in production environments.
The ideal candidate has managed software engineers at a robotics company and knows what it takes to ship reliable, production-grade software in a fast-moving hardware environment. This is a great fit for a hands-on, in-the-trenches manager who wants meaningful ownership, close technical partnership with the team, and the opportunity to help shape how high-performing robotics software gets built and shipped.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of software engineers building the operator-facing applications and integration layer between Pickle's frontend and autonomy platform.
- Drive the technical vision and execution for Pickle’s human-robot interface software, ensuring a robust, reliable end-user experience and tight integration across the full software stack.
- Foster a culture of engineering excellence through code reviews, architecture discussions, iterative development, and a high bar for quality.
- Collaborate closely with Pickle's other engineering managers to ensure seamless end-to-end system behavior.
- Partner with Product and Program Management to scope features, track progress, and adapt to evolving priorities.
- Identify gaps in the team, whether structural or skill-based, and work with People Operations to hire, upskill, or supplement as needed.
- Represent the HRI function in cross-team initiatives and contribute to broader engineering strategy.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- 2+ years of software engineering management experience at a deep tech, robotics, or hardware-focused company.
- Demonstrated experience managing SWEs through complex technical and integration challenges, not just feature delivery.
- Working knowledge of ROS or a similar robotics middleware framework, specifically how commands flow from an operator-facing application to an autonomous system.
- A strong communicator and mentor who gives clear feedback, develops engineers at all levels, and builds team confidence without lowering standards.
- Experience driving outcomes with both speed and excellence in highly ambiguous, fast-moving business environments.
- Willing and able to work from our Charlestown, MA office at least three times per week.

Tips for Finding Engineering Jobs at Pickle Robot Company
Align your resume to robotics engineering
Pickle Robot's Engineering roles center on autonomous systems, motion planning, and hardware-software integration. Frame your resume around hands-on experience with robotic platforms, embedded systems, or industrial automation rather than generalist software or mechanical work.
Document your specialty occupation eligibility early
H-1B approval for engineering roles requires proving the position qualifies as a specialty occupation. Gather transcripts, degree equivalency evaluations, and any relevant certifications before you reach the offer stage so there are no delays when your employer files with USCIS.
Target roles that map to your specific visa type
Pickle Robot sponsors H-1B, TN visa, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and Green Card pathways. If you're on OPT, prioritize roles where the engineering function matches your degree field exactly, since USCIS scrutinizes STEM OPT extensions for degree-to-job alignment in manufacturing and robotics.
Browse open Engineering roles on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Pickle Robot Company's open Engineering positions by visa type. This saves time by surfacing only roles where sponsorship is actively offered, so you're not cold-applying to positions that won't move your immigration situation forward.
Raise sponsorship timing during the offer stage
H-1B cap-subject filings must reach USCIS by April 1 for an October 1 start. If you're negotiating an offer in winter or spring, confirm whether your employer will file in the upcoming cap season or whether a cap-exempt or TN pathway is available to start sooner.
Understand how PERM affects your Green Card timeline
EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship at a manufacturing company like Pickle Robot requires the employer to complete a PERM labor certification through DOL before filing your immigrant petition. This process can take a year or more, so clarify whether your employer has an active PERM program before accepting an offer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Pickle Robot Company sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, Pickle Robot Company sponsors H-1B visas for Engineering roles. The H-1B requires your position to qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific technical field is a standard requirement. Engineering roles in robotics and industrial automation typically meet this threshold. Your employer handles the USCIS filing, but you'll need to supply transcripts and, if your degree is from outside the U.S., a credential evaluation.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at Pickle Robot Company?
You can browse and apply for Engineering positions at Pickle Robot Company directly through Migrate Mate, which surfaces open roles filtered by visa sponsorship type. When you apply, tailor your application to the specific engineering domain the role covers, whether that's robotics software, mechanical systems, or hardware integration. Pickle Robot's work sits at the intersection of manufacturing and autonomous systems, so relevant hands-on project experience carries weight alongside your formal qualifications.
Which visa types does Pickle Robot Company commonly use for Engineering roles?
Pickle Robot Company sponsors H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. For early-career engineers on F-1 status, OPT and CPT are common entry points. The TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering occupations. Longer-term sponsorship typically follows the H-1B or employer-sponsored Green Card route once you've established yourself in the role.
What qualifications does Pickle Robot Company expect for Engineering roles?
Engineering roles at Pickle Robot typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a closely related field. Given the company's focus on autonomous material handling, experience with robotics, industrial automation, or embedded systems is relevant. Roles that involve novel technical challenges may also consider candidates with strong project portfolios, particularly where degree field and job function align clearly for visa purposes.
How do I time my Engineering job search around visa sponsorship deadlines?
If you're targeting H-1B sponsorship, the cap registration window opens in early March and closes within days. Your employer must register you before an October 1 start date is possible. F-1 OPT gives you up to 12 months of work authorization after graduation, with a 24-month STEM extension available for qualifying engineering roles. Starting your job search at least three to four months before your current authorization expires gives enough runway to navigate the offer and filing process without a gap.
