Align your credentials to power systems engineering
Generac prioritizes engineers with backgrounds in electrical, mechanical, or power electronics disciplines. Before applying, confirm your degree and any relevant certifications map directly to the role's specialty occupation requirement, since USCIS evaluates the degree-to-job-title alignment closely for H-1B petitions.
Target roles tied to active product lines
Focus your applications on engineering functions tied to Generac's core generator, energy storage, and clean energy portfolios. These product lines drive ongoing R&D hiring, which means the employer has stronger internal justification for sponsoring a petition rather than treating it as a one-off request.
Search Generac openings using Migrate Mate
Filter for Generac's engineering roles by visa type using Migrate Mate, so you're only targeting positions where sponsorship is already confirmed. This saves time you'd otherwise spend cold-applying and waiting to ask about sponsorship late in the process.
Raise sponsorship before the offer stage
In manufacturing companies, HR teams often finalize compensation packages before the sponsorship conversation starts. Bring up your visa status during the second or third interview round so the hiring manager can loop in HR early and avoid delays if an H-1B filing needs to be prepared before a start date.
Understand the LCA requirement for your work location
If your Generac role is based at a facility outside Wisconsin, confirm the Labor Condition Application the employer files with DOL covers that specific worksite. Engineers who move between facilities or project sites can trigger LCA amendment requirements that affect your start timeline.
Plan your Green Card timeline around PERM early
For EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, PERM labor certification requires Generac to run a full recruitment process before filing. Ask your employer contact when they typically initiate PERM and whether the engineering role you're targeting has been sponsored at the permanent residency stage before.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Generac Power Systems sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, Generac Power Systems sponsors H-1B visas for engineering roles. The company has a documented history of filing H-1B petitions across engineering disciplines, including roles tied to power systems, product development, and manufacturing operations. If you're in cap-subject status, confirm your target role qualifies as a specialty occupation before applying, since USCIS scrutinizes degree-to-job alignment at petition review.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at Generac Power Systems?
Apply directly through Generac's careers portal, or use Migrate Mate to browse their open engineering positions filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility. When you apply, tailor your resume to reflect the specific engineering discipline the role requires. Disclosing your visa status in your cover letter or early in the screening call helps avoid late-stage complications if an H-1B filing needs to be coordinated around a start date.
Which visa types does Generac Power Systems commonly use for Engineering roles?
Generac sponsors H-1B visas for engineering hires who require nonimmigrant work authorization, which covers most international candidates in F-1 OPT or those transferring from another employer. For longer-term pathways, the company also files EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card petitions for engineering positions, typically through PERM labor certification. The right category depends on your qualifications and how the role is classified.
What qualifications does Generac Power Systems expect from Engineering candidates?
Generac typically hires engineers with bachelor's or master's degrees in electrical, mechanical, systems, or power electronics engineering. For H-1B eligibility, your degree must align specifically with the job's specialty occupation classification, not just engineering broadly. Roles tied to energy storage, generator design, or embedded systems often expect hands-on product development experience alongside academic credentials, so industry internships or co-op experience strengthens your profile.
How long does the H-1B sponsorship process take at a manufacturing employer like Generac?
For cap-subject H-1B petitions, the process starts with the USCIS lottery in March and has an October 1 start date if selected, meaning you need an offer in place before registration in February or March. PERM labor certification for Green Card sponsorship takes 12 to 18 months or longer depending on DOL processing times. Aligning your offer timeline to these windows early prevents gaps between your current authorization and your new status.
